General Tips and Strategies Top
1. Rush
Contraption for vision/map control
2. Try to get a
Fountain of Renewal RIGHT AFTER for extra regeneration from the active for your whole team
3. Just try to get as tanks as possible that they are afraid of you
4. Lvl 8 is where you begin to be a threat in team fights because of the new stun on
Quibble
5. Boots are essential for
Phinn, because he is naturally slow
6. An
Atlas Pauldron is necessary to counter Weapon
SAW,
Krul, and
Glaive
7. The
Shiversteel will help you keep enemies where you want them if you remember to activate it
8. The
Tornado Trigger will increase the effectiveness of your
Shiversteel and help you do more damage
9. If you achieve full build, get as many infusions as possible(prioritizing
Crystal Infusion), but don't try to farm, if a team fight breaks out, go there immediately!
NOTE:
Forced Accord IS KEY TO WINNING TEAMFIGHTS! MAKE SURE TO USE IT TO INITIATE AND PULL IN LOW ENEMIES ONLY!!!
Support Strategies Top
Standing on top of your jungler will make it harder for your opponents hit them.
Building a
Fountain of Renewal will change the outcome of team fights. It heals nearby allies when activated, so save it for when either all of your team's health less than half, or if you can heal a low ally who is getting chased.
In that case, use
Polite Company to draw in the chasing enemies. If that is not enough, use
Forced Accord to make sure they are away from your low ally and distracted by you.
Why I Chose Contraption Instead of Warhorn Top
The reason why I chose
Contraption is because I found that, no matter what, if you use
Forced Accord sparingly, which I do with this build, the Warhorn is not needed.
In my opinion, vision, map control, and overwhelming your opponents with lots of well placed
Scout Traps is better than securing 1 or 2 kills.
Placing
Scout Traps, therefore revealing where your opponents are at certain moments, is vital to winning a match. For example, if you and your team are going for the Kraken or Gold Mine and all of the other team aren't dead, using a
Flare Gun from the
Contraption or placing a
Scout Trap in their Tri bush can be the deciding factor in who captures the objective.
Someone may argue that a support can just buy
Scout Traps and
Flare Guns to do the exact same thing, but buying a lot of
Scout Traps and
Flare Guns can be expensive, and a
Contraption also gives an Area Of Effect to your basic attacks.
I hope this gives you faith in my choice to put a
Contraption in this guide.
How to use Forced Accord Top
Only use
Forced Accord to reel in escaping enemies and set up a fight by pulling in their main damage dealer.
The other side to that is that you can run from your low-life ally and use
Forced Accord to pull the enemy away from your ally. The down side to this is that if you miss, your ally is most likely dead meat.
Missing
Forced Accord isn't that bad because some of the recharge time is given back to you when you miss, but only if you overdrive it. You have to wait a
long amount of time for it to be available again.
Try this Combination: Use
Forced Accord to reel in an opponent, use
Quibble to slow them, and then use
Polite Company to keep them near you.
A sneaky little strategy that you will most likely see from other
Phinns is that, if an enemy dives a turret to kill an ally, you pull them towards a turret and away from the ally, killing them, or, if not, making them take massive damage.
Using and successfully hitting
Quibble is
Phinn's main source of damage and will help win fights, especially if it stuns, which happens when you overdrive it.
How to use Polite Company Top
Polite Company has 2 uses:
1. Buff your allies with bonus health, Shield, and Armour
2. Pull in enemies (Is more effective if overdriven)
The Buffs for your allies are increased by your stats. Your health increases the bonus health, your armour increases the armour your teammates gain, and your shield increases the amount of shield your allies gain.
The pull is helpful for distracting enemies, pulling enemies into the range of your allies, and doing AOE (Area of Effect) Damage to the enemy team.
Reasons Behind Final Item and Alternates to it Top
Tornado Trigger
The
Tornado Trigger is to help speed up your attack speed and, therefore, damage output.
Breaking Point
The
Breaking Point is to make you bigger help in fights. If the opposing team is smart they will attack your Jungler or Laner instead of you, so it will give you time to build up your stacks and, therefore, your damage.
I recommend trying a
Breaking Point on another character to get used to it before attempting it on
Phinn
Aftershock
The
Aftershock is to decrease your ability cool downs, and give you a little bit of life-steal.
Shatterglass
The
Shatterglass is to help your
Quibble do more damage.
Reasons Behind Shiversteel and Alternates to it Top
Shiversteel
The
Shiversteel is to help make your opponents as slow as you. =)
Crucible
The
Crucible is to counteract Area Of Effect stuns like
Joule's
Rocket Leap or
Adagio's
Verse of Judgement.
Reasons Behind Atlas Pauldron and Alternates to it Top
Atlas Pauldron
The
Atlas Pauldron it a good defence against any hero building WP. If you still aren't tanky enough, that is when you build towards a
Metal Jacket. If you are playing against a
Krul or
SAW, keep the
Atlas Pauldron for the attack speed de-buff to counter them.
Metal Jacket
The only reason why I put a
Metal Jacket into their guide is because of
Polite Company. It gives your allies a buff in armour, shield and gives temporary health, the
Metal Jacket will increase the effectiveness of
Polite Company when used in a fight with an opponent who is building WP. A support other than
Phinn who builds a
Metal Jacket is what I like to call a 'Selfish Support.' The
Metal Jacket only helps them, not their team, that is why a Metal lJacket is bad for most supports.
When Playing Against a Taka Top
Make sure to put extra importance on getting a
Contraption when playing against a
Taka.
If you see the
Taka use his
Kaku,
immediately use the
Contraption to flare where the
Taka was, because if you do it in time, he won't be invisible for the duration of his
Kaku.
Doing this is extremely important, because the difference between exposing the
Taka and not exposing them is quite likely the win of the team fight or saving one of your teammates' lives.
If your team can hit the
Taka, then they will die a lot sooner, not pick off a teammate or 2, and give you some gold. Just make sure to hit him and not one of their teammates instead!
Don't worry about being accurate with flaring the
Taka, the range of a flare is surprisingly big!
