Fortress Read Ardan's explanation. Same thing.
1
Joule GIT BEHIND HER AND SCAR HER. FOR LIFE.
1
Phinn Wow. There are a lot of tanks in Vainglory.
2
Ardan Meh. Ardan, along with basically every other tank in the game is not very harmful to this build, crucibleize the ult with your teammates and out-tank him. Yes, with this build you can outtank this dude.
2
Skaarf Your munions will meatshield his fire and you can very easily kill him.
3
Kestrel Derp. Kestrel is a sniper who's pretty burst-y so sneak up and kill her before she disappears. Even if she does, I've actually found a pattern to which Kestrel players run in. It goes like this: If: health below 1/2 Do: Run away from fight in direction of home base If: Health above 1/2 Do: run through or behind enemy. If: The player is either stubborn or stupid Do: Run to the side of the fight.
3
Krul He can be kited as easily as you can grow munions. Watch out for Smite!
3
Reim Old men usually like animals, right...? Well by the time he fights you HE WONT. I play Reim a lot and Petal is just ANNOYING.
4
Alpha Only played her like once but at that time crushed her. Her reboot takes so long you can just kill her before she comes back.
4
Catherine Avoid the stun, and the silence, but otherwise her bubble is useless (your munion dmg is so low the sheild ignores it) and youre fine.
5
Adagio Ooooh boy. Basically: If he's with teammates, flee or you die. If he's alone, he's rabbit food.
5
Petal May the BEST BUNNY WIN!!!!!!! ^.^
5
Ringo Kite or be Kited.
5
Vox Pfffft. You call this guy ranged when his attack range is a measly 4.5? Ha! And the ironic thing is... He can be kited stupidly easily!!! However his bounce AOE damage is insane and will take out your munions fast.
6
  No Threat
7
Blackfeather AAAAAH! He will chase you and do it good. Fortunately your escape is pretty good, and you can possibly kite him with boots. Watch out though.
7
Rona Don't try to face her, she'll kill you. However, if you're fast, you can kite her.
7
Taka He's bursty... But still dangerous cause the bleed counters potions and fountain, and he does stupid damage.
8
Celeste This un's tricky. Genesis is pretty dangerous and spammy, and the stun is SO annoying, but you're probably tanky enough to out sustain her.
8
Koshka Run. Now. Or kite her.
8
Ozo He will close the gap between you and him in no time, then KILL YOU!!! Your only chance is to sprint-warhorn away and try to kite him. He is a tank though, oddly enough...
9
Glaive You will DIE. This cat will clobber you, which isn't much better than getting evaporated by a nasty SAW or rapid fire Skye.
10
SAW Surprise! Your munions are all dead! Surprise! You're dead!
10
Skye Can't kite her, can't ambush her, and she'll evaporate your munions.

Introduction Top

Hi guys, I'm P0m3granat3. Being a strict Petal main and having just made my account recently, I decided to build a guide. This is my first guide so please leave feedback! Also, this is my play style so it may or may not fit yours. I'll be covering what this build is and how it works with Petal, along with how to play her, items, tips, and her move set.

Currently Petal seems really under-powered and unpopular, but I think that's because of her gargantuan learning curve and a little bit of an under-whelming damage output. However-with a good build and coordinated technical skill, Petal is a raging powerhouse. In the wrong hands, she's a frail old rabbit. This guide will help you achieve better Petal potential.

In the new meta it's rare you see Petal or SAW for that matter... Now it's Petal Time!

Enjoy! ^.^

Why this Build? Top

Ok, I bet that right now you're thinking that this build is dumb and closing the tab. Everyone says this build sucks cause you have low attack power. Newsflash: they're wrong. You don't need attack power if you can just sustain so long that you'll never die. Plus, Petal's kit is built around sustain and being in the edge of the fight for a really long time, slowly chipping health down to zero. Plus, I like Petal as support.

I use this build cause' its really unusual, and the fact that Petal is the character who needs a long, sustained fight to do her most damage fits this build perfectly. Basically, you let the opponent think they're winning by letting them do a good chunk of damage, then hit Fountain of Renewal and Crucible their ult, to substantially out-sustain until their health is chipped down to nil. Petal is an attrition character tuned to taking objectives like the mines and the Kraken, so focus on those. Another neat tip is that Petal's ult heal is pretty good, so when your mates are getting bursted down, use your ult to scare the opponent away and heal your teammates. Activate Fountain to heal even more. As you can see, I'm using Petal as a support/protector of sorts, and this helps when your team is frail.

Petal is a bit of a flex pick as she can play jungle well and lane okay, but roam is mediocre. I usually stick to the jungle for the whole game, popping up to the lane like a bunny popping out of its hole every once in a while. Sometimes when there's a teamfight breaking out in the lane, I sneak up to the edge of the brush and ult the most frail hero, refreshing my teammates and killing my enemies. Petal can snipe well as she has a range of six meters-which is quite large. Make sure you have at least two munions at all times (however save a few seeds for escape purposes) and beware of ganks as petal is squishy as a rotten avocado (and just as green). Most of all, have fun!

Items and why these Items Top

Initial Purchase: Oakheart, Halcyon Potion

3:01 to 4 minutes: Dragonheart, Crystal Bit

4:01 to 5 minutes: Dragonheart, Heavy Prism

5:01 to 7 minutes: Dragonheart, Heavy Prism, Oakheart

7:01 to 10 minutes: Dragonheart, Heavy Prism, Oakheart, buy and activate one Crystal Infusion

10:01 to 14 minutes: Dragonheart, Heavy Prism, Lifespring, Travel Boots, Crystal Infusion is used up

14:01 to 15 minutes: Dragonheart, Shatterglass, Lifespring, Journey Boots

15:01 to 16 minutes: Dragonheart, Shatterglass, Fountain of Renewal, Journey Boots

16:01 to 20 minutes: Crucible, Shatterglass, Fountain of Renewal, Journey Boots, Coat of Plates

20+ minutes (final build): Crucible, Shatterglass, Fountain of Renewal, Journey Boots, Atlas Pauldron

I've created an "If-Then" pattern to follow, as a reaction chart.

If: Enemy team is crushing you by a massive and uncloseable margin, they Aced you, stole Kraken, Cleared the lane in five seconds, and are 30 seconds away from winning,
Then: SURRENDER, you fool.

If: The two people in the jungle are you and Krul,
Determine:
If: Early game,
Then: Engage
If: Late game,
Then: Run away

If: the whole enemy team suddenly dissapears from the map,
Then: Prepare to get ambushed
Or: Teleport home

If: The enemy team is OBVIOUSLY taking Kraken,
Then: Sneak into whichever side of the brush the Kraken is near without being seen
Then: Last-hit Kraken

Game Play Example: How to Do It Right! Top

Obviously this little critter is suited to be sniper or Mage, but I like her as a protector/support who is insanely tanky and just won't die. Sometimes people try to burst me down, but then I just tap my Fountain and their like, WHAAAAT!!! WHY DAT RABBIT NO DEAD!!! Then I ult them! Enemy hero killed! Normally I start off straight into the jungle to farm. Actually, usually I'm in the jungle the whole game, using crystal infusions every few minutes to keep up a head start. Combining crystal infusion and eve works well, although that's not on this build. Remember to respond to teammate's pings and let them know you acknowledged them so you can play as a team and think of yourself as one well oiled unit instead of four onions and a rabbit. I like to play fair and nice so I've created some rules:
1. When a teammate(s) is farming a creep, respect that and let them kill it-they got there first.
2. I find encouragement via pings lifts the team spirit and helps to play happier.
3. I your team wants to surrender and both other teammates want to, the majority wins; don't ruin it for everyone else.
Continuing with game play:
Early game is Petal's strong suit so abuse that and go around being the god during that time. Normally I would advise to play safe and cautious in the late game, but this build was specifically formed to coax out Petal's inner late game beast. You'll be so tanky, you won't even take that much damage from a few Kraken or Turret hits! This build along with crystal infusions has allowed Petal to be ridiculously tanky late game and survive past even an attack oriented Phinn. Another little something interesting I noticed is that petal has gigantic (1200) energy and uses instead of an energy bar six seed charges. Each charge is depleted one per seed and regenerate every bit of time. If you play smart you can use your moves very effectively such as abusing your ult's heal and trampoline's buff, and if you like you can actually sub out a fountain for a clockwork, and your trampoline shenanigans will be crazy. Remember to ping so you know when your teammates are in trouble. Also, I find that when they are in trouble, you can sprint to them and give an enormous heal by doing this:
Trampoline + Boots to edge of fight or near teammate.
Ult.
During Ult's windup, activate Crucible + Fountain.
Boom! Enemy Heroes Killed and Your team Refreshed!

Technique Top

In this section, you will find out some techniques and skills to use.

Most Important

Kiting
To summarize kiting, a ranged character with a higher attack range than the character being kited runs ahead of their target. As the target chases the ranged hero, the ranged hero turns, attacks, and runs. This is much like stutter stepping but while having an enemy chase you. Kite characters you know you out range and whatever you do, don't let them close the gap.

Stutter stepping
Because this build has no attack speed items, you need to learn to stutter step. Stutter stepping is when you attack, untarget the targeted enemy, then retarget. This resets your basic attacks and let's you attack faster. However, don't retarget away from the enemy if sniping from the edge of a fight, retarget sideways so there is no delay as your character moves to attack.

Escaping
Ever get in that situation where that nasty Krul just won't give up, or that darned Blackfeather is chasing you down? Well, of course you need to escape. Here's how. If you have boots, save them for the last stretch to sprint to safety. Otherwise, if you need to waste that seed to Trampoline! away, use it - it's better to be down a seed than die altogether.

Important:

Chasing
Imagine this: You're chasing the enemy Catherine, who's been carrying the team this whole way. You know that this kill will lead to an Ace and probably a victory. However, you don't have boots and Catherine is moving away rapidly. She gets away, they capture Kraken, you lose the game, your team gets mad, then they break up, and your life is ruined. And all because you didn't know how to chase. In another multiverse: You decide to use that one seed you have left and Trampoline!. Catherine dies, you get the Ace, you get Kraken, you win. What I'm saying here is don't be stingy on seeds. If you need that one seed to get Ace and win, use it!

Less Important:

Vision
Having vision is an important thing. Your seeds may only last 20 seconds, but that 20 second vision could make or break the game. I like to put one at Kraken every few seconds to make sure I know when the enemy is going for it. Then I can hide and last hit Kraken (the funniest thing to do. Ever.).

Moves Top

Petals Moveset is interesting... I guess.

Brambleboom Seeds
Wiki entry: Hero:
Petal | Slot: A|1/1/1/1/1|200/200/200/200/200
Petal plants a Brambleboom seed directly in front of her. Seeds near Petal will sprout into pets after a brief delay, up to 3 pets. Seeds have a small vision radius. If an enemy steps on a seed, the seed explodes and knocks the enemy back.
DETAILS:
Pet Health: 110/200/290/380/560 (+0.30 Crystal)
Pet Defense: 20/25/30/35/45 (+0.05 Crystal)
Pet Damage: 8/16/24/32/48 (+0.5 Crystal)
Seed Health: 50/80/110/140/200 (+0.15 Crystal)
Damage: 80/135/190/245/300 (+1 Crystal)

Brambleboom Seeds are really useful. Although they no longer heal, they are your munion source and provide twenty second vision. Use sparingly but often as you get six charges and if you use them all at once you will be seedless for over a minute. Have fun leading people in circles and making them step on ! I only put in 4 points for this one because if you're building crystal you get enough munion damage anyways so you can focus on your buff/escape Trampoline!. If you like however you can put in 5 points and take one off of Trampoline!.

Trampoline!
Wiki Entry:
Hero: Petal | Slot: B|10/9/8/7/5|0/0/0/0/0
Activate when standing on a boom seed to trampoline off it and launch forward in Petal's facing direction. Using this ability will rally all pets back to Petal's location and amplify Petal's weapon & crystal power for 4 seconds.
DETAILS:
Crystal Amp: 15%/20%/25%/30%/40%
Weapon Amp: 10%/15%/20%/25%/30%

Trampoline! is good too. I use it to close the last meter or two of space when entering 1v1s(but you shouldn't be entering these in the first place unless you know for sure you can out-sustain the enemy anyways) or teamfights (enter these). The 4 second buff is nice but doesn't really give a big big difference. I use this to chase and escape mainly, as it provides good distance very fast. Remember, if you need that seed to escape, use it. It's better to survive with only one seed left than die because you refused to use it.

Spontaneous Combustion
Wiki Entry:
Hero: Petal | Slot: C|70/70/70|0/0/0
Petal commands her pets to explode one by one, slowing and dealing splash damage to nearby enemies while healing nearby allies. Detonated pets become seeds.
DETAILS:
Damage: 180/240/300 (+0.7 Crystal)
Heal: 60/100/140 (+0.2 Crystal)

I love this move. It heals a whole bunch, and does ridiculous damage. The description on the wiki entry says 180/240/300 plus 0.7 crystal damage, which isn't much, but that number is per explosion-and there are three explosions. This means the damage if all hits connect is actually a total of 540/720/900. The heal is 180/300/420. Insane, right!?

Thanks! Top

Thanks for reading my Petal Guide to the end and tolerating my lame and cheesy puns. Please leave feedback and go have some fun with this rabbit!
