This is my first guide.
I think i have managed to create a decent build for the new character
Ardan, so i have decided to share my build with you guys.
Ardan is the powerful new protector. He has the ability to change the landscape of the battlefield with his ultimate
Gauntlet. Ardan is best utilised as a damage-soaker AKA tank. Use him to save your allies with your
Vanguard ability or even use your ultimate to save a low-health team by creating a barrier.
As ardan is specialised in defending his team, it is important to capitalise on his natural defense-advantage. Start building Ardan with health abilities so that you will be capable of soaking up as much damage as possible.
Start with
Ironguard Contract,
Halcyon Potion and
Scout Trap. Rush down to the midway shop and place your trap between the bush and the minions. This prevents enemy heros from ganking you in early stages of the game. Start attacking minions and gain as much gold and EXP as possible. Once all minions are dead, go to the shop and make your first purchase. If your team-mate needs it, go to the lane to assert your presence to the opposisition. Once your team-mate has the situation under control, continue to farm minions and EXP. Occasionally, travel over to the opposition's minions with an ally hero, and attack the enemy heros and minions.
Your first purchase should be
Sprint Boots and
Oakheart. This makes you able to move more quickly and starts to build the tanky build you will eventually have.
Once you have made Your first purchase, save up for
Dragonheart and
Reflex Block. Make the purchase of 2
Oakhearts before upgrading to the higher upgrades. This purchase will be essential as it makes you a lot more tanker in early stages of the game.
Purchase
Swift Shooter upgrade next as it increases your strike-rate, thus shortening the cooldown of your main damage attack
Blood for Blood.
Your next step should be to upgrade to
Travel Boots,
Blazing Salvo, and make the purchase of
Heavy Prism. This shortens cooldowns further and increases damage.
At this point you should be around level 6-8. Other characters will begin to use their ultimates, so it is important you can protect your team. Your next purchase should be
Crucible, followed by
Shiversteel. This adds an extraordinary amount of HP and gives you the ability to shield your team.
Shiversteel slows opponents after being struck by you, and if your
Vanguard strikes all opponents, they will be slowed for a period of time. This gives your team the upper hand of agility. Remember, you don't have to use
Vanguard on yourself. Infact, it is best to apply it to a team mate as a smart opposition will NOT target you, as you will be too tanky.
Now that you have tankened up, you can start to add damage abilities. Start with buying
Alternating Current, as it adds crystal power and attack speed.
You can sell
Ironguard Contract at this point so you can make room for other items. Once you have done this, purchase
Six Sins and
Piercing Spear, and upgrade these to
Tension Bow. (If you are having problems surviving at this point, purchase a defensive upgrade such as
Kinetic Shield.) Basic strikes will be drastically stronger, and you also have the possibility to deal extra damage with the perk of
Tension Bow.
For the sixth slot, it is a matter of circumstances. If your team appears to be dominating, you should use any of the weapon or crystal options i suggested. This adds extra damage, making you an even more threatening presence. If you are dying a little too much, you should use an armor/shield upgrade. Depending on what sort of builds the opposition is using, you should use different items, if their heavy hitters are weapon build, use an armor buffing item such as
Metal Jacket or atlas pouldron. If they are crystal build, use a shield buffing item such as
Aegis.
If you use this build, you become a reasonable tank and can withstand a large beating from 3 enemies for a while, at the same time as being able to deal some damage too. Fast cooldowns result in larger output of damage, so increase your attack rate as much as possible (to shorten
Blood for Blood's cooldown, but try to purchase the upgrades which have perks which will be handy.
Being a tank is your main priority, so if your team requires more tank, or you seem to be dying too much, get armor and shield upgrades. At this point, adding more health isn't necessary, but armor and shield upgrades will go a long way. I have tried pure tank build before, and it worked out quite well. Weapon and crystal upgrades are purely there to make you a damager, but it isn't necessary.
Don't bother trying to 1v1 people in early stages unless you can guarantee a kill or backup. Use your ultimate wisely as it has an incredibly long cooldown.
Always target the highest damager, soak their damage, protect your team mates. Place your
Gauntlet wisely. Try to lock laners inside and lock meelee heroes out. If you can do all of this successfully, its an easy win.
Thanks for reading my guide! Not quite sure how to use all the tools of this guide creator, so sorry for the un-proffesional appearance. Feel free to share your opinions about my build and give me tips about my build and my guide! :-)
