I am EZGGNoobz(skill tier: hotness on main account), and I have been playing krul ever since 1.3 to now. I experimented with many builds, including many here on VGF. Eventually I decided to make modifications on them, and found one that won me most games. I decided to share this build to the community here on VGF, as I have gotten my previous build ideas from VGF and would like to, in a sense, give back to the community.
In the final build, replace the
Metal Jacket and/or
Aegis with whatever defensive item you build. You can also not upgrade your
Dead Man's Rush on level 5, so you can upgrade your
From Hell's Heart and your
Spectral Smite to level 4 in level 6.
Abilities
I chose to rushing his
Spectral Smite ability, so that he could do 800+ damage with 1 smite and also 300 damage with just 1 stack at level 8. With
Breaking Point, and the lifesteal from
Spectral Smite, you can 3v1 if there are no burst champs on the enemy team. I did not max out
From Hell's Heart because it is mainly for chasing enemies and not for damage. His
Dead Man's Rush is good with his overdrive because it gives 600 HP barrier, and also does quite a bit of damage (even more with
Aftershock).
Item Explanations
Breaking Point is well integrated into krul because of his sustain from
Spectral Smite and
Dead Man's Rush. It allows him to build stacks while using the lifesteal/barrier to keep being in the fight.
Shiversteel is a very necessary tool to chase fleeing enemies (especially for an ace). Allows for the enemy ringo/vox to stop kiting you and letting those
Spectral Smite stacks disappear.
Journey Boots are important to catch up to and to escape from enemies. Also saves time from going place to place. Upgrade this item to travel boots after you get your
Aftershock/
Clockwork, and upgrade it to journey only if you have money leftover after purchasing infusions.
Aftershock allows your
Dead Man's Rush to do 15% slice damage to your opponent. This is a good way to add on some damage if the enemy is good at escaping and you cannot use your breaking point stacks efficiently.
Clockwork allows your abilities, especially
Spectral Smite to come off much faster. This is useful for killing jungle monsters faster and also to have more sustain in team battles.
Defensive items are only useful when counterbuilding your opponents. Don't buy 2
Metal Jacket when the whole enemy is going CP, or an atlas pauldron when there is no
SAW or attack speed boosting items on the opponents team. That being said, defensive items should be used so that you don't instantly get executed before you even got 3 stacks. They will keep you in the game with
Spectral Smite and
Breaking Point doing the damage. Get
Crucible and
Metal Jacket if the enemy is going full WP,
Crucible and
Aegis if the enemy is going full CP, and
Metal Jacket and
Aegis if the enemy is going hybrid. Get
Atlas Pauldron instead of
Crucible if the enemy has at least 2 people who are going attack speed.
Jungle Invasion
If your teammates want to invade, put out a warning ping on top of the enemy jungle.
Krul is naturally weak in invasions at level 1. If the enemy invades, go across the middle bushes connecting the lane and jungle and take the enemy's jungle while they take yours.
Krul Strategy
Farm, Farm, Farm. Without farming you will get nowhere. Try to make sure that your jungle partner utilizes
Ironguard Contract with you to earn the most gold. Gank when you have cleared all the jungle camps. Do not take the minion miner unless the laner asks you to do so. Place scout traps around gold mine and the shop. At level 8 and
Breaking Point is about the time you want to get involved in fights and ganking more in lane. Your smite will do crazy amounts of damage and
Shiversteel will prevent escape.
Kraken
Krul can solo the kraken, but it is most likely not worth. Do not try to solo or team the kraken if you don't know where the enemy is. If you successfully do a kraken steal, you will get an ace effect until full health. Use this time to have your team fight the other team. You will most likely get an ace. On the other hand, if the enemy does a kraken steal, run away, but keep in a group so you will not be at a disadvantage.
Kraken Defense
Rush to your first alive turret and try to fight enemies. They are at a disadvantage because of your turret. If they flee don't chase them, just keep fighting the kraken. You will most likely lose 1 turret, but try not to lose 2. When your turret is less than 1/4 health and there are enemies, retreat to your next turret. Remember that the kraken pays out 500 gold to each team member, which is 1500 gold total (more than the 900 you lose with a turret).
1v1
Krul is the master of 1v1. You will most likely annihilate the opponent. Just use
Shiversteel and
Shadows Empower Me to slow your opponent down. Smite at 6-7 when he is going to flee or if
Shiversteel is about to wear off. Because
Krul has one of the fastest move speeds in the game (3.4), he can probably catch and finish off a fleeing enemy with icon=dead man's rush size=20+2 basic attacks+
Spectral Smite. Use your sword wisely, usually when your opponent is running. Do not use it to engage.
Team fights
Make sure to have your tank initiate the fight first. Kill the squishiest enemy, then attack the non-tank. Use shiversteel when the squishy is at low health. Save your sword for the last enemy, when he flees. in a team fight, if you don't get targeted first, you will most likely emerge with 12-15 breaking point stacks, which buffs up krul's basic attacks to over 300 damage. Have your crucible/aegis ready for when the enemy is casting stun/huge damage ults.
Gold miner and comebacking
If you are getting killed early (from an invasion, stupid laner, stupid support, etc), try to farm and never engage the enemy until you are at level 12. Fight only when it is a 2v1 or 3v2. Try to steal gold mine when it is >200 gold, even if you get aced. (At the first payout, a death is worth about 100 gold, but you get 200 gold each). If the enemy took it and you are behind, you MUST get the second gold payout or you will have a 98% chance of losing. By the second gold payout, watch out for enemies trying to steal the gold mine from you. Use scout traps and ambushes wisely. If the enemy controls it, try to unleash all your burst damage and steal it, even if it means an ace.

Some games you just can't win. For example, I was playing a game when an adagio AFK'ed first 20 seconds of the game, and my ally koshka didn't know how to play and bought 5 sprint boots for the entire game. Even though I carried the game with around 20/3/8 and koshka 11/4/10, we still lost. Another game we had a really stupid adagio who would only gank and not farm. He apparently did not know the game mechanics and only bought T3 items directly (No upgrading). Also, he would always run from fights. We lost even though the enemy ardan abandoned. Nothing can help in those situations.
