Introduction - Why Kestrel? Top
Kestrel is a pretty underrated hero- she's was overplayed when she first came out, but since then i haven't seen much of her
I'd just like to make it clear that I think Kestrel is the best director damage dealer in the game. it is possible to kill a full health hero in one shot (but more on that later). Another amazing thing about her? She is very fun to play. Definitely. Running around the entire map invisible in one go is just so... Satisfying. What's bad about her then? She's pretty tough to play. Perfecting her requires a ton of practice- Each shot of hers has to be aimed. If you have bad aim, forget playing her. And strategy is also important, being able to lure enemies into mist is really what can decide the fate of a game. Also being able to stay alive is crucial. She has the least amount of health in the game (along with Celeste and Skye) and dying can change EVERYTHING. Anyway, keep reading this guide to find out how exactly to mater her.
Crystal or Weapon? Top
Crystal or weapon- a tough choice. I spent hours playing her differently, trying to figure out the answer. Judging by my guide, you can probably tell I chose Crystal. Although her basic attacks are USELESS, she makes up for it by her long invisibility power. If you're more of a person who just goes in to kill stuff recklessly without really thinking, then maybe weapon's a better choice for you. If you're more strategic, crystal is a much better choice. I have decided to put some pro's and con's to the crystal build, just so you can get an idea.
PROS:
-Invisible forever
-Attacking a hero in mist is DEVESTATING
-Her A ability can be used almost nonstop, replacing her need to use basic attacks
-One shot one kill is literally one shot one kill
-LAST KILLS FOREVER
CONS:
-basic attacks are useless
-umm
-YEah basic attacks are useless
-thats it kind of.
Describing the build in detail... Top
So, I've decided that the first things you need is a crystal bit, an energy battery and a potion. Why?? The energy battery is so you're abilities dont do the long-*** clock thing. Because you rely on ability A for everything, you cant have it run out or else you're dead. The crystal bit is so your A ability actually does anything, and, because you have so little health potions are definitely needed.
Next, you need to rush boots. Boots are important. You'll also want to rush the shatterglass so you can have high damage abilities right away, and next you NEED a clockwork so you can spam your abilities.
After you've got all that, you might as well get a frostburn to add onto your high crytal damage.
After this I think its worth buying a alternating to make your attacks faster, so you can basic attack in between each ability A attack
Lastly is your broken myth, because why not.
Describing her abilities Top
Her first ability is basically her base, her only offence. Remember though, this ability goes through targets so try to aim it so you can hit 2 in 1. Also, the damage is higher when enemies are at the edge of your range instead of right in front of you. Another thing too is that when you run out of arrows you wont get more until you STOP ATTACKING so dont try to scare them with your useless basic attacks, just stay there for a few seconds until you get your arrows back.
Her next ability is pretty useless at the beginning, but by mid-end you can be invisible forever. I have tested it, you can run over halfway across the map in just ONE GO! And PLEASE do not forget the best part, the mist. I have been talking about it for awhile on how awesome it is. See, if an enemy walks though your mist and you hit them with ability A, they lose so much health. Once I even took down Kestrel's biggest enemy, Koshka, in one hit when she had FULL HEALTH with this mist. Its crazy
Lastly is one shot one kill. You just shoot it. You tend to miss 50% of the time, but that doesn;t mean you should be afraid to fire it. Just fire it. Dont wait for the perfect timing, because perfect timing really doesnt come often. It recharges quick so just use it when you can.
Lane or jungle? + Gameplay instructions Top
I personally Jungle ir when I use Kestrel, but it's really up to you and whatever you're best at. They tend to make the same amount of gold, get the same amount of kills and level up at the same speed. One thing I noticed though was that you die a lot in the beginning when you go Lane, so when you decide to Lane because cautious.
JUNGLE INSTRUCTIONS:
At the very start, don't be too cocky and invade the enemies half of the jungle. I'd just farm non-stop until level 8. If you do it right, you should be the first one to level 8 and have lors of gold. After that I'd still farm to get enough gold to finish off your build, but now you can also go out and attack others. I'd attack with the help of your teammates first though so you get a feel of your enemies, then if you know you can 1v1 one of them go and hunt them down. Kestrel is very good at hunting and finishing low health heroes. Once you pass level 12 and most of your build is complete, I'd spent the rest of your time hunting down heroes. Whatever you do though, don't 1v2 someone. Only go after someone If they're alone, or your teammate is coming to help you.
LANE INSTRUCTIONS:
Landing is pretty similar to jungle, just play it safe and never get too cocky when's you're still pretty weak. Kestrel is all about late game, and is pretty much useless for the first ten or so minutes.
Conclusion Top
Good luck with kestrel! She is a very good hero and i hope you learned a considerable amount about her. Remember though, don the folkiw rhe instructions exactly. ITs good to put your own twist on her, as my playing style is probably different from yours. Most people too use one of the defensive items in their builds which I don't. Here are three important rules all kestrel players should follow, though.
-You're useless for the beginning of the game
-never rely on your basic attacks
-use your invisibility and mist to your advantage
Thanks for reading! This guide gets updated a lot, so Check back on it every so often if you're still interested in Kestrel. Thanks again!
