Threat Hero Notes
1
Petal Use pull to put her out position and she is dead. She is mainly good at a range. Fountain and crucible is nice to have to counter the damage she puts of from her ultimate.
2
  No Threat
3
Catherine Cannot stun you, but it turns into a silence. Crucible for her blast tremor (team silence) is great to have to allow your team to deal damage.
4
Ozo He cannot do much to the phinn. But he can do lots to your teammates. Crucible is good to have against his stun or third jump in his B (when CP).
5
Adagio CP can deal a lot of damage if he uses his B when arcane fire is on you. Crucible may be your first item to helo your team counter the ultimate.
5
Rona Early game can be strong, but only if played correctly. This is a very situational hero. She is either a huge threat, or none at all. Use judgement!
5
Phinn Neutral threat (because he is you). Try to put out of position before he puts you out of position with the pull.
5
Celeste Can chunk you down well with supernovas, however, the initial heliogensis stars do not do a whole lot to you. Try to block her ultimate and build a crucible for the ultimate or stuns that will go onto two of your teammates.
6
Ardan Well, you cannot really stun him out of his gauntlet with quibble. Very hard thing to pull off if you ask me. But, you can pull him when he tries to use the gauntlet to reposition it. That's a fun trick to do.
6
Joule Thunderstrike can be deadly if she builds crit. Cannot stun you with jump, but she can chunk your health with basic attacks and thunderstrike.
6
Reim He can do lots of damage to you and slow you with the frost from his basic attacks. He is good to stun if close. The quicker you can kill him, the better it is for your team. Longer teamfights can benefit him with broken myth stacks, and if your team clumps up for his ultimate.
6
Kestrel Even you can be mobile enough to juke her glimmershots. Metal jacket is better to have than aegis since she rarely builds attack speed. Even though she already has a passive attack speed buff. Try to block her ultimates so you take the damage instead of your teammates.
7
Blackfeather If he gets ahead, he will stay ahead. Build lots of armor! Fountain is also good against him to stay alive in fights. His on point ability when CP can actually do a lot of damage when you have a fountain.
7
Glaive Cannot afterburn you. If he tries to afterburn your teammate, try to get rigt next to him to make the afterburn to land on you. It can be a potential fight-saver for your team. It annoys me the mot when playing as glaive. Atlas is good against the tension bow tornado trigger build. Atlas is just good in general against him.
7
Taka His WP crit if he builds it can chunk you down well, but otherwise it will take him a while to take you down if you use your perk well.
7
Skaarf His passive burn if he can get more attacks onto you after landing a spitfire really can hurt. A fountain for his ultimate can be really good to help negate his damage.
8
Krul Atlas is a good counter to negate him from building smite stacks. If he can stick to you when you are the last one alive, you have a good chance of dying unless you can get behind your turrets in time.
8
Ringo Big mid game threat with crit, building metal jacket and crucible may be necessary, as well as atlas.
8
Skye Her forward barrage when WP (late game) or CP (early game) can really give you a beating. You may have to build a "selfish item" to be enough of a tank for your team.
8
Vox Not a threat in the early game, but he can be the best late game hero in the game if he can get 9+ fpm (farm per minute). WP or CP, he is a threat. Double counter defense may be necessary if the game runs long (which is good for the Vox).
8
Koshka Crucible for her stuns is great to have and your teammates will thank you for it. Her enhanced basic attacks are a great counter to you. Try to stun her if you can., but she is mobile. Your B is good to allow your teammates to not take damage for a bit.
8
Fortress His wolves are ANNOYING when he goes CP. Try to have your WP take care of them for your team if possible. Your basic attacks don't do much to the wolves.
9
SAW With a metal jacket, or even an atlas, you will take very little damage. Your perk is your saviour against this hero. CP can be annoying with his ultimate scaling with health.

About Phinn Top

Phinn is a very unique tank who can also deal tons of damage. Because of his natural damage output from abilities, he does not need any WP or CP. He also gains a 15% defensive stat boost from his heroic perk, unstoppable, which also allows him to negate stuns. Heavy defense is best on Phinn because he gains extra defense.

Why do I have THREE DIFFERENT BUILDS?!? Top

Because of Phinn's heroic perk with enhanced defense, he is best by purchasing certain defense items against certain damage and damage type. Go check out the other builds if you haven't already, it is definitely worth the extra time!

About The Items Top

- Fountain of Renewal: Gives you 200 more base health, as well as some shield and armor, but mostly shield. When activated, it gives your allies a certain amount of health, based off of the current health. Meaning, the lower the health is of your allies, then the more health they will get. (Heal ratio: 2 health for every % missing health for 3 seconds).

- Crucible: Passive: + 600 max health. When activated, it gives your whole team (including yourself) a reflex block for 1 second. Good against teamwide CC (adagio ult, catherine ult, etc.).

- Atlas Pauldron: +85 armor and +35 shield. When activated, it slows attack speed in a small radius of enemies by 65% (will not make hero go below base attack speed. Only effects attack speed from built items (Tornado Trigger, Bonesaw, etc.).

- Warhorn: +400 max health and +16 health regen/sec. When activated, grants 2.75 movement speed. Duration: 1 second for each hero affected (3 secs. max). Passive: Stormgaurd Banner.

- Stormguard Banner: +20 true dps (+1 true dps for every 25 gold collected FROM IRONGUARD.). 20% damage is taken to heroes. Max 150 true dps. Good for jungle clearing and basic attacks in teamfights.

Build vs. Full WP Top

Against full weapon power, you want to build lots of armor..... LOTS OF IT! So that is the reson why I have two armor items along with a fountain. It will keep you alive the longest. If the enemies start to build bonesaw, then maybe ditch the metal jacket and go for the crucible. If they have bonesaw, your armor is almost 100% not worth the money. It is not useless, but there are better ways to spend your money.

Fountain of Renewal is a very useful item, even though the enemies are going full weapon power. It gives a heal on activation which can turn the tide of a teamfight.

Atlas, is best against attack speed, so if the enemies aren't building attack speed, you can either build a metal jacket and a crucible with a fountain and mix in a CP item (with warhorn and boots). Or, you could use 2 metal jackets, fountain, crucible (with warhorn and boots). There are many build paths you can go. I do not recommend this type of build on any other hero, it is great with phinn because of his slow movement speed, damage, and heroic perk.

Build vs. Full CP Top

This is one thing I dislike about Vainglory, you don't have many options in tanking at all against CP. All you really have to your advantage is a fountain. If you really have to buy the selfish aegis, its just what you have to do. If you can stick to just crucible, fountain, warhorn, two CP items and boots, you are good to go.

There are two different playstyles with building against a full CP team. You can go the damage route, or the full-blown tank build.

When using the more damage build, you still build the three support items first. Fountain, Crucible, warhorn. Thehn lean towards a Broken Myth and possible an aftershock. But always keep in mind that if your team is falling behind, you may have to build that aegis. Or you can just buy flares, of course.

When using the tanky build, you have to go right for the defense. Fountain, Cruicble, Aegis, then warhorn with boots and any item you wish. Usually I keep that spot open for flares, because you can never get enough vision :).

Build vs. Both WP and CP Top

This is definitely harder to counter than full WP or full CP. The build is rather simple, maybe even easier to create without having selfish items.

First rule: Atlas paulron is a must! It is very likely that one of the two enemy carries will build attack speed. CP Vox and CP Ringo both build attack speed (unless it is the aftershock Vox build or SG BM build on ringo). And almost all WP carries build attack speed to deal more damage.

Second Rule: Crucible is important! Most ultimates in the game have a team wide effect. Crucible is great for reducing the amount of damage that comes out of them, or negating the silence/stun effect some heroes have.

Third Rule: Fountain can save lives! Since lots of CP and WP carries do damage over time instead of just burst, fountain when your carries are 2/3 health can keep them alive for longer. Also, before fights when team is low or after getting two out of three kills, fountain is a good top-off.

It is likely that you will not buy a damage item with this build.

Pros of Phinn Top

- Can give good amounts of fortified health to whole team to help them survive in teamfights.
- can re-position enemies into your team, which gives your team a big advantage in fights, even when you are behind.
- Can do an AOE stun when A is overdriven.
- Lots of damage with abilities as a tank, but you have to be able to land them!
- Can usually get away with building a selfish item when against a team with the same damage type.
- Really flexible with builds.

Cons of Phinn Top

- Low mobility, but it gets made up for with all abilities being CC abilities.
- Needs to spend gold early for boots.
- Rushes warhorn in certain cases.

Build Flexibility Top

Well, because of the way I have the build set-up, you can be very flexible with the build path.

Adagio: Crucible first, then fountain and atlas
Krul: Atlas first, then fountain and crucible
Taka, Contraption second (earlier than normal for vision when invisible). And counterbuild against the other carry for first item.

Those are the 3 main heroes that you need to alter your build against.

When to use your Abilities Top

Quibble: Use when you can slow/stun a carry or the support when it is the last one alive. Do not waste this on the support when both or one carry is still alive.

Polite Company: Due to the changes in 1.15, it is good to use when enemies are fleeing (if you think you can catch them with this ability). It is also good when engaging to give your team a barrier before taking their own health bar down.

Forced Accord: This is mainly an initiating tool. It can be risky to use on a bush to surprise the enemies, so flares are good to have in the late game, instead of getting a sixth item. If the other team initiates onto your team, then save it for if you are chasing down fleeing enemies, or you may just not use it.

How to use ironguard contract Top

Ironguard contract should only be used as the first item on supports! You (as a support with ironguard contract) should get the first hits on the jungle camps, and simply just move on to the next. You should not have the camps aggroed onto you when your jungle is getting the last hitson the creeps. Your jungle carry should get the last hits onto the camps, NOT YOU!

When to upgrade to a stormguard banner: This varies by hero. It is different for every support. With phinn, you may need to get it relatively early so you can upgrade to warhorn/contraption quicker. However, with ardan, he may pick it up before buying any other items! With Phinn, you should get it before the 11 minute mark.
