I have played countless number of matches since the 1.9 update came out to try and figure out how to use the new Petal. Petal has always been very underrated and probably the most under used character on Vainglory. Personally, those are my favorite characters to try and master. Who cares about using the character everyone uses. How many matches do you go without seeing a Vox in the line up? Not much. Since the 1.9 update taka has definitely gone down, but used to be ridiculous how much she was used.
What Changed About Petal?
This is the question, right? Why start using her now? Well a couple things changed about her.
Attack Speed: First of all she has even more attack speed. She gains 10%-40% attack speed while her munions are attacking. This is the benefit of keeping your munions out and attacking the opposing characters. They balance this out with lowering some attack damage.
Munion Auto-sprouting: no more using 2 abilities to do the job of one! Now munions auto-sprout after using your A ability after 2.2 seconds.
Explosive Seeds: The seeds you lay down now explode knocking back the enemy character that went over it. Dealing CP damage also. This is great when trying to create seperation. I love pissing off some Krul with this move.
New B ability: This one really confused me at the beginning. Now you can lay down a seed and after, use your B ability to spring in the direction you are going. It does no damage, no stun, nothing except grant mobility. This has turned into one of my favorite abilities. Why? It isn't amazingly practical most of the time or game changing, but allows you to move around. You can also jump over certain walls and infiltrate bases through the cracks like a Rona or Glaive can do.
Starting the game (Or anytime you spawn) always populate 3 minions while still in the base. Energy is a little hard to come by with this build. So starting your voyage out with 3 munions and full energy will be a great boost.
Don't drop seeds unless you are in a fight. Don't waste seeds on munions. This is just a waste because they no longer linger around and grant you vision. Once they are out of your line of sight. They disappear. But they do grant you vision into bushes which is nice.
Once entering into a fight (or before) I will lay down 3 seeds. This will provide me health, shield and repopulate my munions if they die. Keeping those munions around will really help you to stay alive and keep that attack speed up. As you can see, the first item I get is Breaking Point. If you can get your attack speed and start to build your Breaking Point up then you will become dangerous.
Many times teams will send in their bruiser (Tanky Ardan, Cath or Phinn) and then follow after. This is usually the person you don't want to hit first because of armor and health. I like it as petal. They don't do much damage and allow me to build up some Breaking Point Stacks. That way when the Carry comes in I can deal a lot more damage.
Make sure you always create space. It helps to have a tanky person on your team that can be in on the fight. That way you can linger on the outside and do damage.
Maxing out the B ability: You will see that I max out B ability instead of the Ult. That is because the Ult is a harder one to use and can easily miss. I am not the biggest fan. Especially because as a jungler I build WP. Trampoline maxed will increase the distance of your jump. This helps you to kite by a long shot. Now your seeds blast back anyone who is following you (dealing damage) and helps you gain some space between each other.
Stutter Stepping: Taking fast shooting to Clint Eastwood level Top
I find that the key to this build is to stutter step. I will see shooting my basic attack will sometimes look like I am doing multiple a second. When you mix the Breaking point, the munion ability to add attack speed and you stutter stepping, you have a mean combo. Also, it's really easy with petal. I find she is the easiest to stutter step with beside Saw.
If you don't know how to stutter step. Watch Shinkaigan teach it here.
