Lyra is a very strong protector and a mage . Though her damage is powerful, she can be very fragile and squishy . Lyra can be used in Carrying or Captain, but I ( personally) prefer her as a Captain so she won't run out of energy fast from her Heroic Perk : Principle Arcanum - Lyra's basic attacks add additional Crystal Power damage to her target when she is basic attacking . Additionally, if she stays at one place ( Not stutter-stepping or moving attack after attack ) , she will release another "missle" after the first one and will be much stronger and will slow the target .
Her first ability, Imperial Sigil , places a sigil at a chosen place . Depending on where it's placed this can act as an offensive of defensive mechanism . If placed at a nearby ally(ies) or to her , this will automatically heal them . If placed at an enemy, it will do the opposite and will instead drain their health . If re-activated or if time runs out for this ability, it will give her or her allies speed boost but will no longer provide healing .
Her second ability, Bright Bulwark, creates a protective "wall" around her . When the wall drops, enemies walking inside it when it's forming will be slowed and snared, meaning they can't use movement based abilities. If an enemy tries to dash inside the walls will be stopped short before entering upon getting contact with it . Walking in the wall will also provide the same damage when it first falls .
Her ultimate, Arcane Passage , creates a portal that can be used by both teams . This has a very important role in her kit . When portal-ing to a location with an enemy(ies ) inside, make sure to drop that Bulwark right after you get there to prevent the enemy (ies ) from escaping or getting out by using your portal .
I recommend overdriving both your basic abilities and not the portal . Make sure to build lots of defensive items even if your playing her as a Captain or a Carry .
As of now, I will only cover her Captain-ing items ,so let's get to it .
Every captain knows the basic builds such as Fountain of Renewal, Crucible, Wartreads, and So on ... And yes, it also very doable with Lyra. But let's focus on least used items that are actually essential to Captains, Lyra specifically.
Irongaurd Contract used to be a must to Captains, until it changed how it worked and I have no problem with that . Ironguard Contract provides health every time a nearby ally kills a monster , and this is very helpful with Lyra especially with her extreme squishiness, which just keeps her health high and sustained.
Now let's move on to Contraption. I use Contraption just so, I ( or you when playing Lyra ) won't get ganked . Getting ganked without allies near you is really dangerous, yes you can use your portal to run away but they will catch up because they can use it too . If you're lucky and survived, it is important to heal yourself immediately or ask assistance from your allies .
And finally, Nullwave Gauntlet. This can come in " handy " ( get what I did there
