Greetings Top
Hello, this is Ediarai, and I've been a Blackfeather main for quite some time now. I just love how he plays, and in League of Legends, I mained Yasuo, who is actually pretty similar to Blackfeather, so it made him even more appealing to me. I hope that anyone who's taken the time to read this guide be able to charge into their games with renewed confidence, whether you're playing Blackfeather in lane or in the jungle.
I start with Book of Eulogies and 2 potions because early game, I'm just trying to stay back and farm. Why don't I just get a weapon blade? Because Blackfeather is pretty easy to harass early game, the extra potion really helps. And I know what you're thinking. "Where's Sorrowblade? Tornado trigger? Tyrant's Monocle????" Before you say anything, let me just say this. If you play Blackfeather as a bursty assassin, then my guide is not for you. In my opinion, Blackfeather isn't supposed to be played as a glass cannon, but a bruiser with a consistent damage output that you can always rely on. That's why I rush Serpent Mask for the damage and lifesteal, and allow me to emphasize something. Breaking Point and Bonesaw are practically MADE for Blackfeather, complementing the hero as a whole. The two stacking items work extremely well with each other, and Heartthrob is also useful for this. Additionally, Rose Offensive applies basic attacks to anyone it passes through, which is also good. Those two items are what make Blackfeather the monstrous fighter he is now, able to tear through tanks as well as carries, with Feint of Heart doing an absurd amount of execute damage, able to kill almost anyone below 25% hp. Aegis is good for when you don't have Rose Offensive, and it's an amazing item in general, and Metal Jacker/Atlas Pouldron are self-explanatory. Obviously, if you're against a Rona, Reim, etc, Poison Shiv is good to counter those heroes, but don't get it when you don't need it. Serpent's Mask is just better.
Side Note: Shiversteel, I admit, is pretty good on Blackfeather, I just can't figure out a way to fit that item in, since every item in my build counts. However, you can get Shiversteel instead of Aegis after getting Breaking Point, comment if you tried that and tell me how it went! ^^
Another Side Note: If you're against a SAW or Skaarf, or anyone with constant poke, get light armor/light shield along with Book of Eulogies. Not Ringo because if you play safe, he won't be doing TOO much harass.
Laning Top
This is extremely important, so listen carefully. Winning lane is a LUXURY, NOT A NECESSITY. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen a Blackfeather constantly poke his enemy laner, being so pushed that he makes the enemy jungler's job easy. Blackfeather is very weak in lane, and is especially vulnerable to ganks pre-6. Even then, you should be very careful. Your best bet is to stay on your side of the ring (literally, the ring in the middle of the lane) and farm up. Keep in mind that On Point pretty much does as much damage as an auto attack early game, so you can farm with it pretty safely. An ideal situation is if you are able to just farm up and get your items, scaling as the game goes on. Of course, you should be roaming down to help your jungler when necessary, which has sometimes gotten me a couple of early kills. Just remember that Blackfeather is SO vulnerable to ganks and the enemy jungler WILL BE ABUSING THIS. After you overdrive On Point, things get a lot easier, so just hang tight until then. If you get ganked, try using Feint of Heart on an enemy, whether it's an enemy hero or minion. The extra movement speed may help.
Combos Top
Whether it's in lane or your dueling the enemy jungler you should keep these combos in mind.
2 hearthrob stacks --> Feint of Heart --> auto attack (this is crucial for getting the 5th stack of hearthrob unless you have already overdrived Feint of Heart) --> Rose Offensive, the rest is history.
Rose Offensive --> On Point --> Feint of Heart --> Rose Offensive, weave in auto attacks whenever possible.
On Point --> Rose Offensive --> Feint of Heart --> Rose Offensive (the previous combo when you aren't ambushing them from a bush or something, if you aren't in their faces already)
On Point --> Feint of Heart --> Rose Offensive --> auto attacks until Rose Offensive is available again.
Feint of Heart --> On Point --> Rose Offensive --> auto attacks until Rose Offensive is available again. (if you are ambushing)
Keep in mind that during these combos, opening with On Point is generally the safest route since it provides a slow and a shield. Also, use On Point as often as you can as the slow is useful, and the shield can turn any fight around. Another note, do not be afraid to tower dive, just make it quick. Go in, use On Point to finish them off if you need to, and use your other abilities as needed. Save Rose Offensive because the fortified health may save you from that last fatal tower shot.
Jungling Top
This build can work in the jungle too, you'll just be getting gold a little slower. However, it can definitely still be as strong. When you are ganking, you can open up with On point, run up, and start auto attacking like crazy. Try to save Feint of Heart for its execute damage. Blackfeather's jungle clear is pretty good because Feint of Heart's execute damage is useful for finishing off jungle camps, and this ability is also why Blackfeather is able to take Elder Treant and Gold Mine in situations where it would be risky, had you not been playing Blackfeather. Feint of Heart is excellent at securing these objectives, so you don't have to be afraid to go for the enemy's Crystal Mines. Just don't be staying there too long or you're going to get killed by the enemy team.
Captain Top
Sorrowblade Top
If you wanted a glass-cannon Blackfeather build, then fine. I'll give you one. Credit for this build goes to my friend Burrdawg. You're awesome dude!
Book of Eulogies + Weapon Blade + Potion
Barbed Needle --> Sorrowblade --> Lucky Coin (awkward power spike) --> Blazing Salvo --> Serpent's Shadow/Poison Shiv --> Tornado Trigger --> Tyrant's Monocle --> Aegis/Crucible. Fit in boots when you want to.
Now, this build is much more burst-oriented, not to mention low on defense, so you have to be careful to pick the right fights. You will still be going for the same ability order, so no changes there. Same playstyle in lane too, just be safe and get stronger as the game goes on (otherwise known as scaling).
Team Fights Top
Let me make this clear. BLACKFEATHER SHOULD NOT BE ENGAGING FIGHTS. He will get melted by the enemy team and lose the fight for your team. You should wait for a solid engage, such as a Catherine ultimate, and the use Rose Offensive into their back line. Before the fight, poke as much as you can with On Point, but be very careful not to get caught out. On Point's shield is amazing for team fights, so abuse it. Team fights are when you can see Feint of Heart's execute damage really shine. The damage it can do is absolutely ridiculous, so cleaning up the jungler and captain should be no problem. Of course, if their team has a petal, just kill that fool asap. Petal is annoying as heck.
Last Remarks Top
