Threat Hero Notes
1
Ardan He's a tank also, but his ultimate is useless if you have your Crucible ready to use. And really, he couldn't harm a fly.
2
Catherine Breakfast! Your minions deal such little damage so quickly it is ignored by her shield! Her stun is useless, as are all stuns on this build. Just watch out for her ultimate when you're trying to refresh your little guys (or girls).
2
Phinn He's very vulnerable to kiting, he's no problem.
3
Celeste A slight issue when she explodes her stars, and her ultimate is pretty terrifying for your minions, but they do block the majority of the damage. However you can easily negate her stuns and expose her fragility easily.
4
Taka A good Taka is a threat because they will wait for you to be low on health, then strike. His mortal wound will reduce your healing and shatter your sustain. Counter by constantly using flare guns early game, and don't go in the jungle alone, if they really are a good Taka, they'll avoid you.
4
Skaarf Only a threat because his fire pits can wipe out your minions, sustain with your superior health and use Shiversteel when he tries to flee. Yum, dragon!
4
Ringo Early on, he's a sort of threat in the lane. Block his ultimate later on and expose his fragility when he tries to escape with your Shiversteel and Warhorn.
4
Adagio He's so annoying. He can burn your minions with fire and outlast you with his gift of fire. I recommend using your range early lane and deprive him of last hits.
4
SAW Saw saw saw. Very strong, but gets stuck, a lot! In early lane against him, don't bother sprouting any munions as he will kill them instantly with suppressing fire. When he's about to die, he'll initiate with his shank, then attempt to flee. Immediately hit Crucible, then Shiversteel, and explode your minions if you must!
5
Krul Stay away from direct conflict. You can only recover your HP hugely with items, but his stacks and recovery will deal huge damage, and you're not a damage dealer, you're a sustainer. Like other jungle dwelling creeps, avoid solo conflict. You may or may not beat him as Petal is a supreme kiter, but Krul is so disgusting, ew!
5
Petal If built correctly, it's all down to who has the upper hand. Fight her with team mates and target her minions first.
5
Joule Her annoying spam can slash down your minions, but she has to get very close to land Thunder Strike. Move around, and don't let her predict your movements.
5
Rona She's mobile. She's tanky. Stay away.
6
Glaive I put him here because he can slash down your minions, however, he is very frail early on and later in the guide I mention never to initiate with Petal's ultimate, but cleaning this guy off immediately should be your first goal.
7
Skye She's a pain. She blocks your escape and dances around to your carries.
8
Vox Bursty crystal vox is one of your worst nightmares. If he has an Eve, your minions only allow him to get more bounces, heal more, and out sustain you. Adittionally, his burst can delete you in a second, especially with aftershock. His type of mobility is different from what shiversteel can negate, so don't get caught alone with this guy. If you play smartly, however, his bounces will only hit your munions and leave you safe, however, a burst vox, as mentioned earlier, doesn't rely on resonance as much as his A.
8
Fortress NOOOOOOOOOPE. NO. NOT OK. He can chase and initiate like nothing else, deals hp% damage naturally, and allows assassins to catch you easier, just avoid him. He's dangerous by himself, only because of his Law of the Claw when it detonates. I've found purchasing several pairs of boots early on helps me stay alive, if you have advice on this guy, please tell me!
9
Koshka Koshka is your only real threat. With an Aftershock, she can completely render useless your huge hp. However, you can run from her easily with the warhorn, boots, and crucible if she tries to stun you with her ultimate.

Introduction

(Take note that Shiversteel and breaking point have been nerfed heavily for ranged heroes since this guide was made, and petal in general is a meal in the current meta)

In the current meta, Petal dies very easily and her munions are so weak due to all the aoe being introduced. Doesn't it just suck when you're being focused due to the meta? Well, with this build, being focused is precisely the mistake you want the enemy to make.

Petal is, ironically, almost overpowered. (Look, squirrel!) Petal's attack range has been exploited to the max with Shiversteel, so a kill is almost always ensured. With this build, you can even solo whole teams and get 20+ kills in a match. The only weakness in this build is if an enemy has an Aftershock, which of course deals HP% damage. Choose this build if you are new to tanking, or want to counter the current meta!

Call me weird but I've always called junglers jungle creeps, because they're in the jungle, and they're creepy (ahem, krul...)

Enjoy, and have fun on the Halcyon Fold.

(Once featured in staff picks.)

Boots, why so early?

In early lane, Petal is extremely fragile. Ensure to create a 'healing station' near the closest turret with your bramblethorn seeds.

Top

Shiversteel

Essential to this build. Use it to slow enemies before they even attempt to flee, heal with Fountain of Renewal in case of an ambush and complete your kill.

Top

Fountain of Renewal

Use when your allies are low on health. Follow with Crucible for maximum effect, this will intimidate your enemies into fleeing because they'll think they've dealt no damage. What next? Warhorn, ofcourse.

Top

Warhorn

Also essential. Helps you get away from jungle creeps, speeds up your allies in time of need. Best followed by Fountain of Renewal and Crucible.

Top

Crucible

Not only provides huge health, but allows allies to escape stuns. This renders Adagio, Koshka, and Ardan's ultimate's useless.

Top

Shatterglass, Metal Jacket, Aegis

Shatterglass gives you much needed power, your ultimate will hit like a truck. However, I would suggest Metal Jacket or Aegis if you are against any assassins or burst damagers.

Tactics

All of these items can be used simultaneously. Believe it or not this is a risk taking build. It is possible to wipe out whole teams with it, but you need to know when to flee.

Early on, never forget to constantly use flare guns. You can't afford any surprises.

Activate warhorn to allow your allies to:

A: Run from the enermy: Skaarf's ultimate or Adagio's ultimate.

B: Chase fleeing enemies, this is made easier still with Shiversteel.

Always follow a fleeing Warhorn with Fountain of Renewal and/or Crucible, this is a no brainer.

If you are initiating team fights, always begin with Shiversteel. If any enemies try to flee, you're already prepared.

SOLOING WHOLE TEAMS

RISKY BUSINESS. If you like that? Proceed.

A: NEVER initiate.

B: If any targets are frail or even SLIGHTLY low on health, target them first.

C: CONSTANTLY plant your seeds, this can add up to a lot of regen.

D: DO NOT BE SCARED. (All the time.) You are not a damage dealer, they will not die instantly. Take your time and use the enemies underestimation of you to the max. Prepare with a shiversteel when they realise they're losing, follow with a sprint, warhorn, then 'Spontaneous Combustion'. Use this to either scare your opponents or finish them off when they flee.
.

E: Bask in your regen and move speed, Ace.

FINALLY. What you're really here for, some little secrets.

I noticed this and didn't think many other people even knew about it because I've never seen it deliberately done before. Minion candy also powers up a friendly gold mine. Why is this useful? Say the gold mine is about to pay out, minion candy will make it stronger and harder to take for the enemy team. Sweet!

Ok, so... Where is the damage? Is Petal even a tank?

Yes. I know from experience she can 1v3 and support even better than other dedicated tanks, in some cases. On occasions I have exceeded 20 kills, 20 assists and no deaths.

Who Should I Be Excited To Play Her With? Top

Huge damage dealers that are frail, like Skaarf, Taka, Celeste and Koshka. She fills all the holes in huge damage dealers and allows quick get aways. Also, Ardan is great too, he emphasises the whole no one gets away thing.

How do I counter a tanky Petal? Top

Countering Tank Petal

Your best bet is a Koshka. But, obviously, not every team has one. If you have a damage dealer (Glaive, Saw, Taka) your best bet is to add an Aftershock. Abuse her with Glaive's critical strikes, or thwart her with a Saw's ultimate, prepared with an Aftershock buff.

Get her alone, surprise her. Wipe out her teammates first then her slows will be reduced in effectiveness. Watch closely her used items, if you notice she has used Crucible, follow with a stunning ultimate, then spam abilities (Glaive with a Clockwork works rediculously well as it also removes her minions).

Any Other Guides? Top

I also have an Adagio guide, on how to carry solo Q with a CP Adagio Mage build.
