When playing Catherine, unless you are heavily playing jungle, it is always a good idea to upgrade
Merciless Pursuit at level one, upgrading it first, and take it's overdrive. Merciless Pursuit gives the user a short burst of movement speed and replaces the next basic attack with a short stun that increases in duration with each level of the ability. Catherine's second ability,
Stormguard, creates a barrier around Catherine, inflicting passive Crystal damage to any enemies that come into contact with it.
Stormguard also prevents Catherine from taking a set percentage of her maximum health, and reflects any damage surpassing that directly back at the enemy. Unless playing a Crystal build Catherine, I recommend learning this ability at level two, upgrading it last, and holding back on taking the overdrive as opposed to taking the third rank on her ultimate. Catherine's ultimate,
Blast Tremor, has Catherine slam the ground in front of her, dealing heavy Crystal damage and silencing all enemies in the direction the ability was used. The silence on
Blast Tremor lasts 2.5 seconds at all levels, but increases the damage inflicted by the ability as it is leveled up. I recommend learning this ability whenever possible, and taking it's third rank over
Stormguard's overdrive when playing a heavy crystal build. Catherine's perk, Captain of the Guard, grants Catherine 1 stack of armor and shield whenever she stuns or silences an enemy with her abilities. The stacks granted by Catherine's perk are permanent, and I would recommend stunning enemies in the lane whenever the opportunity presents itself. However, I would not recommend using Catherine's ultimate unless you are able to hit two or more enemies as an initiation to a team fight.
Tip: A good initiation combo with Catherine is to use
Blast Tremor and then immediately use
Merciless Pursuit on the enemy Carry.
