Introduction Top
Hi, my ign is shinyamphy, and i am an
Ardan one trick pony in low teir 6. Although my rank is pretty trash, i do often see people stuck in teir 3 on facebook and i quite honestly feel really bad for them so if u wanna get up to t6, just bare with me as this is my first guide. (THIS IS INCOMPLETE ATM, I MISSCLICKED PUBLISH)
Overall Top
Ardan is a very mobile roam hero. He also has some pretty good jungle potential but i will discuss this in another guide in the future hopefully.
Ardan's passive is
Julia's Gift which gives him 1% of his missing health back for every attack he takes. Essentially this is damage reduction, which makes him a very good diving tank. His A is
Vanguard, which shields himself or jumps to allies to shield them, and deal damage in a small area around, dealing little damage, and slowing enemies. His B is
Blood for Blood, which is a very good poke tool when combined with
Vanguard. While
Ardan is a late game hero, he also excels in the early game due to his B-A combo.
Early game Top
Do not be afraid to tower dive in the early game if an enemy is under 5% health. Build boots to weave around through the enemy lane bush, and through the first and second turrets to B-A combo an enemy under 5%.
Ardan is very good with hyper carries because he can finish off kills that a squishy laner cannot, as well as shield them in the lv 3, lv 6 jungle gank, and future teamfights. Since
Ardan does not rely on energy, you should be poking as much as you can, especially if the enemy roam follows the jungler. The only exception to this is if the enemy plays
SAW,
Catherine,
Blackfeather, or has a jungler like
Koshka,
Taka, or
Glaive. Against those heroes, you should be saving your
Vanguard for protecting your carry. Depending on enemy, you may want to rush
Fountain of Renewal or go for boots, ironguard, and vision first. One thing i see many bad roams do is build
Contraption first. The only time you would want to do that is aginst
Kestrel,
Taka, and
Flicker all on the same team. Even then, you would probably rather go for
Fountain of Renewal.
Fountain of Renewal costs 2100 gold, or 1750 if you build
Oakheart and
Light Shield first. You should be first backing at 2400 gold if you went ironguard and boots. You should be first backing at 1750 if you built
Oakheart and
Light Shield first. Basic build is
Fountain of Renewal at around 3:30-6:00 depending on game speed. After your fountain or renewal, you should be going after a little bit of vision. Maybe pick up a flaregun and a few
Scout Trap. I recommend either
War Treads,
Atlas Pauldron, or
Crucible as a second item.
Mid game Top
Midgame starts around when first turret/turrets are destroyed, first gold miner is taken, or around 7 minutes. At this point you should have a few
Scout Trap placed around the map as well as your
Fountain of Renewal completed and almost your second item. Dont fight too much in the mid game as
Ardan is not too good in the midgame, unless you absolutely have to (eg.
Koshka on your team who needs to stay ahead). Other than that, midgame should be bouncing minnion waves back and fourth, taking small fights, and farming up for the late game where
Ardan shines the most. In the midgame, you should obtain your
War Treads,
Atlas Pauldron, and one situational item. (see situational items)
Situational items Top
Situational items i put in the item guide may have you raising eyebrows. Stormcrown you basically always want to build because of the cooldown reduction, and extra damage. Nullwave gauntlet is a good choice if enemy roam has 3+ active abilities, if they are very good with fountain, or if you have a WP
Ringo against enemy who has 2
Atlas Pauldron. Nullwave is also good to prevent enemy captain from shielding their teammates out of
Gauntlet. Aftershock is good item if you get so ahead with your jungler that completing this item gives you a 15 minute surrender.
Frostburn is good if there are some REALLY slippery enemies that are a must shutdown. You don't usually build
Frostburn (like 99% of the time you don't) but in that very rare case, it can be a good mixup rather than a
Shiversteel because ardan's
Vanguard is aoe.
Shatterglass is a late game item in case enemy doesn't build shield, but you really only build it 5% of the time.
Slumbering Husk is an item to let you go even deeper as a tank. If your team consists of a
Blackfeather,
Rona and
Ardan,
Slumbering Husk is the item to build.
Crucible is good against
Phinn's
Forced Accord,
Catherine's
Blast Tremor,
Koshka's
Yummy Catnip Frenzy, and against an enemy
Ardan
Gauntlet.
Crucible is a good item 80% of the time. Sometimes, its just a shield to let an ally last 2 more seconds to kill off the enemy
SAW.
Tension Bow is the other version of aftershock, and you would build it in the same situation as aftershock except if your team already has lots of crystal, you should build
Tension Bow instead.
Echo is built when enemy also has great late game teamfight, so you can pull off
Gauntlet twice. Just remember to stay inside both of them or there is no point of buying
Echo. You can also use
Echo to shield 2 allies, as the damage they take while protected by
Vanguard helps you reduce your
Blood for Blood cooldown. Finally,
Poisoned Shiv is good against teamcomps with lots of healing. If the enemy picks up
Lyra or
Adagio, your WP teammate should build one. Sometimes tho its also good if you build
Poisoned Shiv. Usually
Poisoned Shiv is not the go to option since you can counterpick
Fortress
Taka or
Rona, but if you are in blindpick with 2 CP teammates against a
Lyra and
Adagio, then u gotta do what u gotta do. Also,
Nullwave Gauntlet is interchangeable with
Stormcrown as they both provide health and cooldown reduction. If you go for
Nullwave Gauntlet, you sacrifice the extra damage, while if you go for
Stormcrown, you can't silence the enemy captain. Nullwave duels are very annoying and a topic on its own.
Nullwave Gauntlet is usually used to silence
Fountain of Renewal, but it can also be used to silence a nullwave about to do that. Either way, if enemy builds one, just go
Crucible, or straight up ignore it (unless you are high elo), as low elo nullwave is usually timed way off.
Late Game Top
By the late game, you should have fountain or renewal,
War Treads,
Stormcrown,
Atlas Pauldron (maybe), and one more item that gives health.
Vanguard gives more shield to allies depending on your health so it is important to build lots of hp items to maximize shield it gives. Late game
Ardan looks to wait for fights started by enemies, or start a fight using
Vanguard onto a teammate like
Rona,
Reim,
Krul, etc. Look to
Gauntlet when the enemies have used up all their stuns, or as a suprise early on (a bit more risky). A good gauntlet should separate enemy squishy from the roam and possibly force a
Crucible or
Aegis. After killing a carry, you should aim to ace as
Ardan has amazing gap closing combined with
War Treads.
