The first ability you want to learn is
Agent of Wrath. This along with your
Swift Shooter, will help with clearing the first jungle rotation quickly. At level 2, learn
Gift of Fire as your two abilities synergise together. You will then want to prioritise levelling
Agent of Wrath over
Gift of Fire as this will allow you maximise damage output for your team. Learn
Verse of Judgement at level 6, as at this point in the game, your enemies may not have picked up Reflex Blocks yet, and getting a stun off would be relatively easy. The two abilities you will want to overdrive are
Agent of Wrath and
Gift of Fire, to protect and power-up your laner as much as possible.
With a Crystal Power build especially,
Adagio's overdriven
Verse of Judgement can do an immense amount of damage. However, I usually choose not to overdrive this ability because my role in this team set-up is to protect my laner. Casting
Verse of Judgement prevents me from doing that, as I will be locked in place and 'silenced' while channelling the ability. So timing the use of this skill is crucial, and you will use it only when you know your laner can survive without your help for the next few seconds. Waiting for Reflex Blocks to be used before casting your ultimate will help with pulling off team-wide stuns.
Early Game
Start with a
Swift Shooter and a couple of Halcyon Potions. This will help with farming the first jungle round quickly. The next item you might want to get is
Sprint Boots, especially if you feel that a fight might soon break out. Early boots will help you to kite or chase after enemies. An alternative purchase at this stage is a
Crystal Bit, which will boost the power of your abilities, decreasing the jungle clear time, so that you will be able to get back to the jungle shop before your enemies do, giving you an advantage if a fight ensues. After a couple of rounds of farming in the jungle, you should have bought
Sprint Boots, 2 Crystal Bits and some defence (
Light Shield /
Light Armor,
Oakheart).
Mid Game
The Crystal Bits will be built into a
Heavy Prism and an
Eclipse Prism, towards a
Shatterglass, the first core item of the build. Getting a
Shatterglass greatly amplifies the heal and buff from
Gift of Fire and
Agent of Wrath respectively. A
Reflex Block is the next item you will need which will help with self-preservation and prevent you from being stunned out of casting your ultimate. Upgrading your
Sprint Boots into
Journey Boots is a good idea here.
The next core item is
Clockwork, which will greatly reduce the cooldowns of your abilities, allowing you to heal and buff your allies more often during team-fights. Purchase the
Chronograph part over the
Void Battery, as you usually will not run into energy issues due to Adagio's Heroic Perk, and the cooldown from the
Chronograph will be more beneficial to you before your
Clockwork is complete. At this point, you should upgrade your
Journey Boots to
Travel Boots if you can afford it. The increased movement speed allows you to keep in range of your laner during team-fights, and to kite around enemies.
Late Game
Once you have your
Shatterglass,
Clockwork,
Reflex Block and
Travel Boots, the core of the build is complete. Additional items you get are then situational. If the enemies are targetting you heavily and you are struggling to survive, then go for more defensive items; your
Reflex Block can be upgraded into an
Aegis or
Crucible, depending on what you need more. You can get a
Metal Jacket for defence against WP enemy carries. If survivability is not an issue, then you can opt for getting more CP, to enhance your heals and buffs further, or getting more cooldown acceleration.
Frostburn is a good purchase as the slow it causes provides additional utility.
Broken Myth or even another
Shatterglass are also good purchases as these will enhance your abilities further.
Although
Adagio can be a carry in his own right, the style with which I jungle
Adagio is to be a support to my Weapon Power laner, in addition to our traditional Roamer. My goal here is to keep my lane carry alive with
Gift of Fire and to buff him with
Agent of Wrath during team-fights. I, myself, will not be hurting the enemies much. My laner will deal more than enough damage for the both of us with my
Agent of Wrath buff - if he is protected well enough to remain alive to deal damage.
Early Game
Adagio is strong in the early game, and can clear the jungle in the first rotation quickly. Start with a
Swift Shooter and a couple of Halcyon Potions. Ensure that you have both
Gift of Fire and
Agent of Wrath learnt before any fight (especially against melee enemies), if not, it is probably better to avoid fighting. At your first shopping opportunity, get
Sprint Boots and if possible,
Light Armor /
Light Shield (depending on your enemy jungler). Boots will help you to kite enemies better or to chase them down. If a fight breaks out, remember that
Gift of Fire will slow nearby enemies if the skill is used on
Adagio. This is very important for attacks from melee enemy heroes. Try to set enemy heroes ablaze with Arcane Fire as this will enhance the buff of
Agent of Wrath, which sometimes means casting
Gift of Fire on your roamer. Be careful though, as if you do this prematurely, an enemy
Koshka or
Glaive for example, could jump on you and you would not be able to slow her/him for you to get away.
In the early game, you would usually buff yourself with
Agent of Wrath rather than your laner. If you are out of range of the enemies, you can buff your roamer if he is on the enemy.
At your next shop, get a couple of Crystal Bits (which you will build into a
Shatterglass. If surviving skirmishes is a problem, consider getting more defensive items. Level up
Gift of Fire next, then
Agent of Wrath. For the 5th skill point, if I am being more offensive I put it into
Agent of Wrath, and into
Gift of Fire if being more defensive. Take
Verse of Judgement at level 6, as at this time in the game, enemies may not yet have Reflex Blocks, which will allow you to get a team-wide stun for 2.2 seconds - remember that in order for enemies to be stunned by the ultimate, they have to be on fire.
Picture: Using
Verse of Judgement
Mid Game - Late Game
You can initiate team-fights by activating your boots, running into enemies and casting
Gift of Fire immediately followed by
Verse of Judgement. Be careful when you do this, as you may be focussed down hard, especially if your team-mates are too far behind you. This initiation can also be used to catch lone enemies out.
During team-fights, your job is to heal and buff your laner, although, on occasion, buffing yourself with
Agent of Wrath is a good option (e.g. if your laner is busy fighting and a low HP enemy is escaping - but be sure that your laner will win his battle without you). Knowing when you should buff your laner if important. For example, if your laner is
Ringo, you will want to buff him when he has
Twirling Silver activated. This will maximise his damage output.
The timing for using
Verse of Judgement in the late game is tricky. Adagio channels this ability for 2 seconds. During this time, enemies may simply run out of the effective area. Casting
Gift of Fire on yourself will usually keep nearby enemies within the area. BUT, during all this time, your laner may need your heal to stay alive. Knowing the right moments to use your abilities and on the right target takes experience and practice. Overdriving abilities is also situational. If you find that team-fighting requires a lot of kiting or chasing and you can't get good lockdowns to pull off
Verse of Judgement, then it would be better off overdriving
Gift of Fire and
Agent of Wrath. Whereas, if you have been consistently landing
Verse of Judgement, then it would be worthwhile overdriving this ability.
Good positioning during team-fights is critical. You do not want to be taking damage as you will ideally want to use
Gift of Fire on your laner and not yourself. So you need to be at a safe distance from enemies, but also in range of your laner to provide heals and buffs whenever necessary.
Thanks for reading and I hope you find this useful (please give a thumbs up if you like the guide)! Keep practising and I hope to see you on the Halcyon Fold!
