I'm at the current ranking of Bronze "The Hottness", but I haven't been able to go do ranked matches in a while because I am still not level 10 yet.. I've been kind of busy is all. Regardless I use this build whenever I play
Catherine, and it works every time. I have played this game since the time
Taka was the brand new fancy champion. (He's my other main).
Catherine was the first hero I ever picked up, and I have loved her ever since. Her abilities have hands down the most utility of any support in this game and is the hardest to kill (when build correctly).
I want to say that the
biggest point of this build is addressing how well she works with the core I listed.
I always start off with the normal support item
Ironguard Contract. I hope I don't have to explain to you why. Just do it #Shia Lebouf. I really do
NOT recommend early jungle invades. For me it just seems to waste time and half the time you lose horribly.
IF your laner is doing fine, get boots to give him visits every so often. If he's doing fine, rush
Contraption, then get your boots. Also when building
Contraption make sure to buy the cooldown items first, (
Hourglass and
Chronograph). This will help you get ability spam sooner.
Next build
Aftershock, again buy the cooldown items first to maximize ability spam. When built, this will also allow you to still do damage in team fights because you can use your abilities and trigger the 15% slice damage each time you use an ability. Now you aren't that unkillable tank that the enemy just runs around because your damage is negligible.
Once you build
Aftershock, make sure you have
Travel Boots by then to get the increased mobility. Then feel free to build whatever extra tank items you need! Just look at the enemy teams build and counter their builds respectively. (Look at items listed above) Usually, I build items that help the team more first like the
Fountain of Renewal before
Aegis against CP, and
Atlas Pauldron before
Crucible.
WHY I BUILD CONTRAPTION:
Catherine is super tanky with her second ability, you wont need Warhorn. ALSO this gives her 30% CDA and literally so many land mines you wont even know what to do with yourself. I see lots of people build
Clockwork and it makes me sad cause your wasting gold trying to get that 50% CDA and measly amounts of Mana Regen. When you combine
Aftershock and
Contraption Catherine gets 55% CDA AND lets her have tons of vision and map control with the lane mines AND does tons of damage with
Aftershock's passive.
WHY I OVERDRIVE HER SECOND ABILITY:
Catherine's
Merciless Pursuit is a great ability and allows her to have the most crowd control of any champion in Vainglory. BUT the extra amount of mana cost is not worth the extra .5 seconds of stun. Trust me, with the 55% CDA, you will have plenty of opportunities to stun everyone you want and then some without having mana problems.
I overdrive
Stormguard because when it's overdriven, it deals
83 DPS. This is why I say
Aftershock is the ONLY damage item you will need on her because you will melt anyone standing near you and makes you invincible while you use it. Oh yeah, also with your 55% CDA and increased cooldown from overdrive, you can reuse that shield every 3 seconds now.
My favorite thing to do with her is turn on the shield and walk into an enemy ridden bush and watch all of them spam their abilities on me do take out maybe 20% of my health. Now that their abilities are all on cooldown your teammates can go in and kill anyone they want with little resistance. Any stragglers left behind and use your
Merciless Pursuit to stop them in their tracks and deal the 15% slice damage you get from
Aftershock or let your teammates get the kill.
LATE GAME:
My games for the most part end by the time I have finished building the Core Items with maybe some items building into the extra counter build items. (Say a
Reflex Block or
Kinetic Shield). BUT if you are in late game make sure to use at least the
Crystal Infusion. And if you have full build and got racks on racks sure use the
Weapon Infusion too. HINT ON USING INFUSIONS - if you feel you are say 5-6 minutes of the game ending (win or lose). Buy the infusion that is most useful for your Champion (for
Catherine it's the
Crystal Infusion) There is all this mathy stuff going into it, but essentially it is most useful for your team when the game is near the end and you need a little extra power spike to finish it off/ turn the game around.
I love the new item
Contraption that SEMC added in a while back. Learn and experiment with good Land Mine placements on the map for vision in the enemy jungle. You can also just put it in places you know they will be mid game to chunk out their health without even being there and psychologically intimidate them. There are some Youtube Videos you can find to learn good placements if you want a head start. (I personally love killing the camp that's closest to your side that will heal you when you kill it. and walk as far into the wall as you can and place a trap.) They rarely ever trigger it and it will give your team vision there when they walk by it. This build is largely ability and vision oriented. If you are new to this game or just never played games with emphasis on vision of the map, you will learn very quickly how this can affect your game. With mines in the jungle, you don't have to go running around late game doing that thing where the team runs from bush to bush waiting to find the enemy team and scared sh**less the entire time.
Also, make sure to get
Travel Boots in the mid game if your team isn't losing horribly. This will allow you to move around the map much faster to help save your teammates from dying with a good stun and run.
Comment and ask me anything I'd love to help! If you use this build please leave a like on this page so I can see how many people use/ enjoy my build too. Good luck and have fun :)
