Introduction Top
Hello! I'm Mishapsody, an aspiring Vainglory player. I recently purchased Lyra, and I'm enjoying her a lot, despite the hate I get for playing her ;P
In this build, I will describe how I personally play her. Currently, I have only lost a few games as her using this build(the few times we had a leaver D:).
Before We Begin Top
Please keep in mind that this build is what Lyra was intended to do, healing and protecting the team. Their lives come before yours, and that is the bottom line.
Rather than her being a Missile spamming carry, I(and SEMC too, probably) prefer to play her as she was meant to be played. This doesn't mean that you can't secure kills, though. Her Heroic Perk,
Principle Arcanum, is infamously known for getting kills, so if need be, finish what your allies couldn't. Just don't go KS-ing your carries too hard.
I didn't show in the Item section to buy vision, but make sure you do. Vision is a key part of every game. Without it, your team will be flailing around in the dark getting
X-Retsu'd by
Taka everywhere. It's a single item slot and 50 gold apiece, but the reward for placing these little things is invaluable(more than 50 gold, anyway).
First Buy: Why Energy Battery? Top
I always get asked this question, and the answer is simple. At level 1, Lyra has 270 EP. Her A, Imperial Sigil, costs 65 EP at level 1, which I always pick up first to keep allied junglers topped off.
Her Heroic Perk also uses 12 EP per use, meaning she'll be consuming EP faster than she can recover. For just 300 gold, Lyra increases her level 1 EP pool from 270 to 420, and her EP Recharge goes from 2.15 to 3.65.
Don't forget about the potions, too. The most efficient way to use them is when both your health and Energy require replenishing.
I purchase
Energy Battery first rather than a
Crystal Bit or a
Swift Shooter mainly because Lyra is a
Roamer, not the Jungler or the Laner(she can be played that way, though, but that's not what this guide is about ;p). Crystal Bit and Swift Shooters can be saved for the carries. Now,
Oakheart is also a viable item to buy first for its increased healing given to her A, but I'd rather have more Sigils than more potent Sigils.
Start To Finish: Explaining the Items & More Top
First Shop Rotations
Here is where you should be buying your
Oakheart and
Swift Shooter. These will be used to build
Lifespring and
Blazing Salvo, respectively.
The two will later be used to build
Fountain of Renewal and
Alternating Current.
Miners Spawn
This occurs at 4:00 into the game. By now, you should have all tier 1 items(except
Crystal Bit for
Alternating Current) required to build
Fountain of Renewal,
Alternating Current, and
Halcyon Chargers.
Midgame
Taking the
Light Shield and the Lifepring, you should have built a Renewal. Upgrade the tier 1's into tier 2's(prioritize boots last), and buy a
Heavy Prism to make an
Alternating Current later on.
12:30: Approaching Kraken
2 minutes and 30 seconds from now, the Kraken will take the Gold Miner's place. Make sure you're ready for the fights coming ahead, be it for control of the Kraken or a team fight to decide who will take the Kraken. This is where the build becomes a fighting force. The
Alternating Current will create ample damage, with the
Piercing Shard to take down Shielded targets.
Coat of Plates builds Armor, which the build is currently lacking.
Kraken!
The Kraken has spawned, and you know what that means. Sitting in the bush and waiting for the enemy to make a move! Haha, just kidding. Make sure you have vision on the enemy bushes, and you will be the initiator for the team fight. Sigil where you think they are, and when you've found them, carry your team to victory with healing and support.
Kraken Pushing
If your team won the Kraken's service, just pepper the enemy team with missiles and sigils. Victory might be around the corner. Let the Kraken do its thing, and help it out. That's what supports do.
If your team
didn't get control of the Kraken, pull up your pants and prepare for a base defense. The enemy team will likely go for your Minion Mine, if you've got one, just to decrease your team's morale. If not, they'll make a push with the Kraken. Keep the bushes near the entrance to your jungle under heavy vision to keep enemies from sneak attacking you from your own jungle. Take the Kraken out, and capture the next one!
Q: Why do you buy Halcyon Chargers instead of War Treads? Isn't that what most Roamers buy?
A: The key word here is
most. Lyra isn't your average Roamer. She can grant the whole team movement speed with her A(albeit not as much movement speed as War Treads, but less cooldown). Plus, she can get allies in or out of enemy lines using her C. Halcyon Chargers are also what you've been building since the start, anyway ;)
Q: Why do you rush to Overdrive Imperial Sigil?
A: Which Lyra doesn't? The extra 2 range is quite major. It can finish off fleeing enemies or heal allies from afar. It's great. Plus, the only other thing you can Overdrive at level 8 is Bright Bulwark, and I think we can all agree that Imperial Sigil's Overdrive is more useful than Bright Bulwark's.
Q: Why
Atlas Pauldron over
Metal Jacket? You're less squishy with
Metal Jacket.
A:
Metal Jacket only provides bonuses to you. A selfish healer doesn't help anyone but herself.
Q: Why didn't you include
Flare in your item build?
A: I do use them, but I find that I rarely use them. I only use them when
Imperial Sigil is on cooldown, since
Imperial Sigil grants vision too. Both have similar firing range, too.
Q:
Broken Myth? Why not
Shatterglass?
A: While yes, at base,
Shatterglass is more powerful than
Broken Myth, Broken Myth's CP boost scales with damaging enemy heroes.
Lyra has some of the largest range in the game, with her homing missiles and her 10-range A(Overdriven increases the range to 12!), those
Broken Myth stacks will be pumped out faster than
SAW's basic attacks! The other thing
Broken Myth has over
Shatterglass is the Shield Pierce. Shield Pierce is nothing to shake a stick at, so
Broken Myth is definitely worth the cost.
Finale Top
Lyra is probably one of my favourite characters. I've been playing this game since its launch(hey, remember that "Vainglory for iPhone" app?), and I was fond of
Adagio back then. Ever since Adagio fell out of the meta, most comps ran without a healer of some sort, without relying on
Fountain of Renewal. Since Lyra's release, She's fit that role that I missed. I hope you enjoyed this guide on how to play Lyra!
