Threat Hero Notes
1
Baron CP Baron isn't a threat to Petal. Avoid his A's and you'll be fine. You can use your B ability to avoid his skillshots or to close the gap on him once he fired those 2 shots and miss!
1
Reim Reim is easy to fight against as Petal. Make sure to avoid coming in contact with him, and counter his ultimate with a Reflex Block. Other than that, you can freely kite him to death.
2
Krul Keep your distance from Krul and you'll be fine. If he runs from the brush up to you then just use your B to escape, then follow it up by exploding one of your munions at him to deal damage and slow him down. He might try to stun you, so be ready for that.
3
Adagio A skilled Adagio player can burn your munions in no time with his A ability. This problem can be solved by planting more seeds as his A tends to have a high cooldown. Don't spam your A ability though!
3
Flicker Flicker is quite annoying, but beatable. All you need is vision and that would make it impossible for him to gank you. If he does slow you down with his B, you can escape it with your B. If you're attacking him and he turns invisible, your munions will still follow him. You can dodge his A by just moving away from it.
3
Fortress His wolves are annoying, but easy to kill. His A could damage you, but only a little bit. However, if the whole enemy team goes after you with his A affecting you, you're gonna have a bad time. Other than that, he's quite slow and relies on his allies and his A for speed, so kiting him is easy. Use your B when he gets close to you.
3
Phinn Phinn isn't a problem unless ignored. Keep your distance from Phinn's abilities and you'll be fine. Use a Reflex Block to counter his ultimate, or just use your B to escape once you're caught in his ultimate.
3
Idris CP Idris isn't a threat to Petal. Once you avoid his chakrams, you'll be fine. Don't let him get a few good hits on you and ignore them, or else you might end up losing.
4
Ardan Ardan isn't a threat to Petal, unless he's a WP or CP carry, which is very unlikely. The only problem about him is his ultimate. Grab a Reflex Block and you should be fine.
5
Celeste Easy to kill early game, but quite annoying in the late game. Her A ability can effectively damage you and it will prevent you from reaching her even if you have your B ability. You have a higher chance of taking Celeste out if you're close to her. However, she can stun you if you get too close and possibly use her ultimate against you. That would probably spell death.
5
Gwen Gwen can do devastating damage if she gets the drop on you. If she stuns you with her ultimate, it can be over, but her it can be easily dodged. Getting to her first might give you a high chance of winning the battle against her.
5
Joule WP Joule is a big problem once she gets to close in on you with her A. If she stuns you with that, you're dead. Her B can be devastating, but all of this can be countered by just keeping your distance from her. She can reach you with her B ability in your basic attack range (6.0) and do massive amounts of WP Damage. You can however harass her with your munions by just simply basic attacking her once. If she uses her A without closing in on you, you're safe. Her ultimate can kill your munions, but it will only lightly damage you. Don't underestimate it though. She can use it to finish you off.
5
Kestrel CP and WP Kestrel isn't that big of a problem. Once CP Kestrel uses all of her 4 shots and she's being attacked, she's done for. WP Kestrel is beatable as long as you get to her first. If either hits you with their ultimate, back off. If she gets the drop on you, avoid her with your B, but don't jump away to where she's shooting her A's at. Remember to avoid the places where she turned invisible to avoid huge burst damage and getting stunned.
5
Rona She can jump on you with her A and use her ultimate to kill your munions and greatly damage you. Avoiding her attacks is pretty easy. When she uses her A on you, avoid it with your B and use your ultimate to slow her down. After using her A and B, she can't go near you to do amy significant damage. If she does use any boots to catch up to you, blocking her path with your seeds is always a good idea.
5
Skaarf Skaarf, if left ignored, could potentially cause massive amounts of damage to Petal. His A could reach her from afar. Remember to use your B to escape from his B. Getting close to Skaarf to kill him is the best option. Just watch out for his A's and B's. Other than that, you can kite him to death, especially early to mid-game.
5
Skye WP Skye relies on her basic attacks to damage you while moving around. Only use your B to escape her ultimate. If possible, use your B when she's trying to escape. Keep in mind that she might try to slow you down with her A, so when using your B to catch her, use it towards her but away from her A's shooting direction.
5
Taka WP Taka isn't that much of a problem for Petal. Just remember to slow him down when he catches you and use your B to escape. After that, you can kite him to death, even when he goes invisible.
6
Glaive His A is very annoying, especially if he hits you with it against the wall. Keeping your distance from him will keep you safe, that is, if he's not after you. He has high burst damage, and his cleaving attacks will kill your munions fast, but otherwise is useless if it's just your munions getting killed. If he used his A without reaching you, you can safely kite him to death, unless he sprints towards you.
6
Lance Once he roots you, you got a good chance of dying. Stay away from Lance and focus on his teammates instead. He will use his B against you to keep your distance or to stun you, so be ready for that.
6
Ozo His AoE damage is very annoying. He can use his B to bounce on you and your minions, and he can heal himself alot by damaging you and your munions with his A. Kiting him to death from a distance is an effecient way of beating him. You can also use your seeds to block his movement when hes moving around you.
6
Joule CP Joule can be a threat to Petal, if used properly. However, the only thing you should worry about her is her ultimate, which can be easily dodged with your B. Keep your distance from her so that her B won't reach you.
6
Skye CP Skye is very challenging to fight against as Petal. Her A could melt it's way from your munions to you. Getting close to her is your best option, but beware of her ultimate. Escape it with your B. Use your ultimate to keep her down. The damage and slow is very helpful at this time.
6
Vox Vox will try to focus on you instead of your munions, and use his A to close in on you and build stacks at the same time. His ultimate is very predictable so just Reflex Block it. Getting Vox first will give you a huge advantage over the battle.
7
Blackfeather A skilled Blackfeather can kill you in no time, unless you get to him first. Escape with your B when he closes in on you. If he uses his A or his ultimate to close on you again, just kill him with your ultimate and basic attacks (considering you have Alternating Current). If he isn't attacking you, you're safe from him. Kiting him is pretty easy if you don't let him get to you.
7
Catherine Catherine's stun can be annoying. If you happen to get stunned by her, you have a high chance of dying. Although her stunning you won't happen unless you stay away from her at the beginning of the fight. Her ultimate can kill your munions instantly and silence you. Dodge her ultimate with your B ability.
7
Baron WP Baron is difficult to battle with if you're playing as Petal. That is, if Baron knows what he's doing. His perk can deal a good amount of damage on both you and your munions. Finishing him off before he deals some serious damage on you is a good idea.
7
Samuel His empowered A attacks could melt your munions away in mere seconds and could possibly damage you along the process. If he ever tried to use his ultimate, counter it with a Reflex Block or by using your B. As long as you can reach Samuel with your basic attacks, it's possible to secure the kill.
7
SAW A fully spun-up SAW will annihilate you. If that's the case, you need help to take him down. Never kill a fully spun-up SAW on your own, unless he's about to die. If he's not spun up, you're good to go. This applies to both CP and WP SAW. You can harass SAW using your munions by basic attacking him once, however, this is a risk against CP SAW because of his A, otherwise it's a good strategy to do against him. Only do this technique once you've acquired your ultimate.
8
Idris His Bs can deal great amounts of damage unless you built accordingly. WP Idris can wipe you out by using his A to close against you and do burst damage, his B to deal additional damage and pick you off at a distance, and his ultimate to finish you off or when you're escaping. Keeping your distance from Idris and kiting him to death is a great idea to kill him.
8
Lyra She can damage you from afar. Her B shuts you down completely because it prevents you from using your B, and her A can kill your munions, damage you, and heal her allies. Focusing on her teammates will force Lyra to protect them from you when they're about to die.
8
Petal If you're up against another Petal, the best build won't always win. If you get to her first, you'll have a higher chance of securing the kill. Remember to use your ultimate to slow her down when she tries to escape.
8
Ringo Ringo spells death for Petal once he gets up close. A skilled Ringo player will take down Petal when they get a chance to, ignoring the munions. Catching Ringo by surprise might do the trick. Just remember that when you're up against him, use your B to escape him if needed be, and let your munions do the dirty work if he still has high health. When he's about to die, kite him to death.
8
Taka CP Taka does incredible amounts of damage when he tries to assassinates you, but the damage isn't great enough to kill you. After using his ultimate and his A, he will try to avoid getting killed/damaged by using his B and running away. Target Taka as soon as you see him attack before he goes invisible as your munions will keep attacking him even when he's invisible, revealing him. After that, he'll be weak and try to run away, unless his abilities' cooldowns run out.
9
  No Threat
10
Alpha Alpha's B ability will allow her to get close to you and deal some serious damage. Her A ability can hunt you down when you try to escape with your B ability or via boots. Her A ability can also eliminate your munions very fast. If she uses her ultimate to reboot, get away from her. This applies to both WP and CP Alpha.
10
Koshka Very annoying and very dangerous. She can wipe your munions clean and still get you along the process. She's gonna stun you any chance she gets, and you basically can't escape her most of the time. She becomes weak late game, so watch out for that!

Hi, I'm JoloIsHere and this is the first guide I've made. I've been a huge fan of Petal ever since I started playing Vainglory. I've picked her as my first and favorite main hero because I loved the idea of commanding tiny creatures to do your bidding and bite enemies to death, and learning that her pets could do more than just bite people makes me want to play with her. So if you're a fan of Petal and want to know how to use her more effectively, then you've come to the right place!

Petal Overview Top

Petal commands a flock of pets that she uses to swarm her enemies from range. She excels at long, sustained fights where damage from her small army really adds up. This adorable creature of the forest brings a potent combination of damage and healing potential to any team.

Heroic Perk
Munions

Petal's basic attacks mark enemy heroes with sunlight. If a 'munion' bites a marked target, the sunlight is consumed and Petal gains 20%-65% attack speed for 1.5 seconds.

A Ability
Brambleboom Seeds

Petal plants a Brambleboom seed directly in front of her. Seeds have a small vision radius. A few moments after Petal plants a seed, it will automatically sprout into a 'munion' which will fight alongside Petal up to a maximum of 3 'munions'. If an enemy steps on a seed, the seed explodes and knocks the enemy back.

B Ability
Trampoline!

Petal leaps in the target direction, leaving a seed behind at her original location. Using the ability will amplify Petal's weapon & crystal power for 4 seconds.

Ultimate
Spontaneous Combustion

Petal commands a munion to explode, slowing and dealing splash damage to nearby enemies while healing nearby allies. Detonated pets become seeds. This ability has 3 charges.

Petal Hero Spotlight

The Abilities and How to Use Them Top

  • Munions perk makes Petal attack enemy heroes with much more attack speed. This perk works well with Alternating Current because you can freuently deliver those empowered basic attacks.

  • Brambleboom Seeds is her A ability. Spamming this ability won't benefit you, and it will deplete your energy.

    What does the seeds do?

The seeds turn into munions if you have less than 3 of them. Otherwise they just sit idly on the ground. Planting seeds even if you have 3 munions can be helpful if you know that you're munions are about to be wiped out or if you can somehow block the enemy's movement path with them.

Spamming these seeds won't do you any good and will eventually consume alot of energy.

What are 'Munions' and how do they work?

Munions are Petal's pets that she uses to attack enemy heroes. Petal can have up to 3 munions at maximum. Munions attack any player that Petal attacks, and will keep attacking that player when he/she is still within the munions' range or even if the player turns invisible. Attacking munions will return to Petal if she is too far away from her pets.

  • Trampoline! is Petal's B ability. This ability bounces you off towards a direction of your choosing, leaving a seed on where you bounced from. It also temporary amplifies your weapon and crystal power for 4 seconds. This is used for:

    • Escaping- Use Trampoline! to escape from potentially dangerous enemy attacks and ganks. The seed it makes could possibly block the enemies' path towards you. You can use Trampoline! over walls, making for great escapes and ambushes.

    • Re-positioning- Trampoline! can also be used to change positions in team fights if you feel uncomfortable in your current spot or to dodge deadly abilities, or to just avoid getting close to enemy heroes.

    • Chasing- Use Trampoline! to chase down fleeing enemy heroes and possibly finish them off. The amplified damage that Trampoline! gives is very helpful in taking down enemy heroes that are almost dead.

    • Amplifying Damage- Petal gains amplified weapon and crystal power every time she uses Trampoline!. Although helpful, using Trampoline! to empower your weapon and crystal power alone can be a disadvantage. You would either lose your advantageous position or put yourself in a bad shape.

  • Spontaneous Combustion is Petal's ultimate. This ability will explode the munion closest to you (If that munion is attacking a player, it will only move toward them once it's set to explode) to deal splash damage to enemies around it and heal the players around it as well. Enemy heroes damaged by this ultimate are slowed. After a munion has exploded, it will turn into a brambleboom seed. This ability has 3 charges.

Use this ability to slow enemies, as well as providing alot of burst damage. Also, if you or an ally is close enough from the explosion, you will also heal from it. Only explode 3 of your munions if you really think it' necessary, otherwise just use as few explosions as possible to maximize your damage potential. Using this ability on clustered enemies can deal massive damage.

Gameplay Top

Petal is a ranged CP Jungler mage. Although squishy, Petal can do massive amounts of damage, especially at Mid-Game, where she gets the power spike that she needs.

Early Game
Buy a Crystal Bit, Energy Battery, and a Halcyon Potion to start you off. If possible, contest for the central treant located at the jungle shop. Always clear your jungle if possible, but feel free to help your laner out if you can.
Remember to play passive during the first few minutes. Try avoiding fights unless necessary. Snowball with your team members if possible.

Once you unlock your ultimate, you'll start to do massive damage.

Mid-Game
You're now powerful enough to start fighting enemy heroes. You can be freely harass enemy heroes in this stage, so snowball as long as you want. Don't take on 1v2's unless you're confident enough that you can kill at least one, or both of them without dying. Always stick to your roamer if possible.

Late Game
Stick to your team to take down objectives and gank the enemy team. Always let your roamer go ahead of you since you want to avoid getting ganked in the late game. One death could result in you losing the game. You still do great damage, but you're gonna start to be a bit squishy. Petal is at her best at Mid-Game, but she's still powerful Late Game, just not that great though.

Items Builds and Explanations Top

Alternating Current works well with Petal's perk, Munions, and her overall abilities since she can constantly deliver empowered basic attacks while her munions do some serious damage, which really adds up.

This item can be replaced with Aftershock if you're faced with tanky enemies. You will still benefit from Petal's perk, but the additional crystal power, empowered basic attacks, and attack speed will get replaced by a bit of crystal power, some cooldown, and Aftershock's special passive which takes 15% of the enemy's health for every time you use an ability.
Clockwork is used to scale your crystal power up by 30%. It's huge cooldown allows you to use your Trampoline! and Spontaneous Combustion more often, as well as using all of your abilities more frequently because of the massive energy regeneration it gives.

Clockwork can be replaced by Halcyon Chargers if you need the speed and the sprint utility more, but Clockwork will let you use your Trampoline! more often, allowing you to get the speed boost you need.
Broken Myth is useful in most scenarios. It's essential for Petal since she stays in battle quite some time; she doesn't instantly kill other enemy heroes unlike others. Broken Myth is also an effective item to counter defensive items such as Fountain of Renewal and Aegis. You can also use Broken Myth against tanky heroes.

If the enemy team don't build any defensive items and are squishy, then just buy another Shatterglass, Frostburn, or Halcyon Chargers as a substitute.
Frostburn can be a great substitute for either of the 3 items, but it's better to swap it with the Shatterglass rather than the Broken Myth or the Alternating Current. Buy this item if you're having trouble catching up to fleeing enemies. Shatterglass
Aftershock is a substitute for either Shatterglass or Alternating Current, although it's recommended to be swapped with Alternating Current instead to maximize damage potential. Aftershock's perk works well with Petal since she can spam her A; Brambleboom Seeds. The continuous lifesteal and true damage from Aftershock can effectively counter enemies with high shield and health, at the cost of using your energy constantly.
Eve of Harvest is a substitute for either Alternating Current, or Clockwork, but it's better to swap with Clockwork instead to maximize damage potential. Eve of Harvest would give you crystal lifesteal, which can go well with the consistent damage that you do, but Clockwork is still better. Only buy this if necessary.
Halcyon Chargers is a substitute for Clockwork. Although Clockwork makes up for speed by reducing the cooldown of Trampoline!, you can buy Halcyon Chargers if you prefer to be faster, at the cost of having less crystal power, cooldown, energy and energy regeneration.
Petal is a squishy hero, so having Metal Jacket and Aegis in your build increases Petal's health and defense significantly. Plus, that Reflex Block is important too.

You can swap either defense items if the enemy team isn't building weapon or crystal power.

Captain Hero Synergies Top

Only heroes that go well with Petal are listed here

Captains
Ardan goes well with Petal since he can get her out of harm's way with his Vanguard. It also makes up for Petal being squishy. His Gauntlet allows Petal to safely attack her enemies while having no trouble with chasing after them.
Lance can both root enemies with his Impale and stun them with his Gythian Wall, letting Petal safely harass them and possibly secure the kill. Lance can also keep Petal safe from her enemies by using his Gythian Wall to keep the enemy heroes' distance from them, and possibly stun them by hitting them to the walls.
Catherine can stun the most threatening enemy hero with her Merciless Pursuit and shut down the entire team by silencing them with her ultimate; Blast Tremor. She can also tank the hits from the enemy team effectively with her perk; Captain of the Guard and her Stormguard.
Lyra can heal Petal if she's low on health, she can buff her with movement speed for escaping or chasing enemies, and she can shut down enemies like Joule, Koshka and Taka's abilities with her Bright Bulwark, preventing them from reaching their targets. Her Arcane Passage can be used for great escapes.
Flicker can deal decent AoE damage with his abilities. His Binding Light can root enemies and he can heavily slow enemy heroes with his Fairy Dust, making heroes affected by it easy targets and can prove useful when escaping from them. His Mooncloak can turn him and his allies invisible, making for great ganks.

Although Flicker pairs up with Petal pretty well, his ultimate; Mooncloak, does not affect her munions. It is still possible to gank enemies with Flicker's ultimate, only if Petal stays behind.
