Without items,
Krul is strong but slow. He's not the greatest team fighter, so utilize his 1v1 ability to pick off an annoying hero and don't try to focus on more than one target. It is crucial to build attack speed and boots on Krul so that he can get to his enemies and do maximum basic attack damage. This is especially essential against ranged heroes like
Petal, and is the perfect counter build to super fast jungler
Koshka. Although other items can be used on a situational basis, I would never go without Journey Boots, Clockwork and Tornado Trigger. 99% of the time I go with Tension Bow, which periodically boosts your basic attack. If timed well, you can take out an enemy almost instantly. If my team takes an early lead, I go with the offensive final build to harass the lane and keep control of the jungle. If the the enemy team does better, however, I opt for Crucible, and Metal Plate or Aegis, based on whether the enemy carry is a Weapon or Crystal hero.
The key is to always initiate first and stick to one target. Throughout the match, you can lay some scout traps for vision so you can get a heads up when the enemy is approaching. Activating Dead Man's Rush first gives you a bit of sustain with a health barrier and some stacks for Smite. Activate Smite if they try to run with low health to finish them off. The best way to use his ult (From Hell's Heart) is if your Dead Man's Rush is almost up and they try to run. Stun them with his ranged ult, and then Dead Man's Rush them to catch up and finish the job. It can also temporarily stun another hero if they call for help. Krul does not have a 2v1 answer so if you get double teamed, using his ult will save you.
