Early Game Top

Since Taka is naturally weaker in the early game, I chose a build that will grow with Taka and have a huge payoff.

In the early game, you want to stay in the jungle and avoid all confrontation. Your main objective is to farm. If you happen to have a team that wants to early rush the opposing jungle then go with them. Other than that, stick to yourself and build up your levels and gold.

The first item I go for is Aftershock. Do not spend any gold on anything else besides potions to heal and one or two scout traps to put in strategic locations to view the enemy's movement (ie in the upper corner of the gold mine or against a wall in the bushes.) You want to place them somewhere that they won't be stepped on, they are there strictly to detect enemy movement.

If farming correctly, you can have X-Retsu by now. Notice you only have a Chronograph at the moment. You will still be kind of weak but having X-Retsu and Kaku will greatly improve your chances of killing and survival. You can now assist in the lane if needed.

This build is a very "in and out" type build especially in the first half of the game until you get some defensive items. Taka can ignore defensive items because of his abilities. You want to X-Retsu onto your target, immediately follow with a Kaiten and then Kaku out of there. People will usually chase you in the direction you were going when you use Kaku. I find success in first running a certain direction and then going the opposite direction to throw them off. It will be harder to do at lower levels of Kaku when the duration does not last very long.

You now have Aftershock! This is when this build begins to pick up. Target weak opponents and watch them drop! You now do a good amount of burst damage at this stage and you will only continue to grow from here. After you get Aftershock, immediately begin to spec towards Clockwork. Since this build is very dependent on abilities, it is important to get that extra energy, energy recharge, and most importantly cooldown acceleration. I usually purchase Sprint Boots and Oakheart around this time as well.

You do not want to stick around to auto attack unless the fight is heavily in your favor. Your job is to counter the damage dealers or finish off targets that are low health. Taka is not meant to lead the charge but rather he is best at jumping in and out of the battle, carefully choosing targets that will drop fast. If you see someone who has little to no defensive items or went defensive versus weapon power, this is your best target. If they have spec'd for health, you will still do good damage as Aftershock damages for 15% of your target's maximum health.

At this point, you should upgrade your defensives and begin to stack more crystal power. You should now be building towards countering your opponent's specs. If Lifespring is not enough defense, spec towards Aegis or Metal Jacket. If you are having a hard time damaging opponents because they defensively spec'd versus crystal power, pick up a Piercing Shard instead of a Heavy Prism.

End Game Top

If the opponent has not surrendered or been defeated by now, it is time to finish them off. If you do not need shield pierce, purchase an Eve of Harvest or a Frostburn now that it's been upgraded. I find that these ites compliment the build and Taka's natural lifesteal. The snare from Frostburn will also come in handy when enemies are fleeing from you plus it now has 100 crystal power! You will definitely need some good defenses if the game goes this far. If I am still having a hard time staying alive, I will skip the Eve of Harvest and go for an Aegis or Metal Jacket. I know I said it before, but winning at this stage of the game is heavily dependent on speccing against your opponent's specs. Do not be afraid to sell something and lose some gold to change your defensive spec. Losing some gold is nothing if it means you will stay alive for longer - a dead Taka deals 0 damage.

At this stage of the game I still continue to fight using an in and out tactic. The only difference now is you will do much more damage and your abilities will cool down much faster. If your team compliments you (ie having a tank to lead the charge and take first hits) then playing Taka becomes very easy. I have turned the tide in many battles by knowing which opponent is the weakest and taking them out or making them retreat. Taka is very fun to play once you learn his mechanics.
