Glaive is probably one of the best heroes for coordinated ganks and team fights. Despite his lack of reliable catch-up methods, his base damage and health are beyond compare with most other warriors.
Glaive is also less of a
traditional warrior than he is a
game-changer.
To play as
Glaive, you need to learn his abilities:
Hunt the Weak (Perk}
Glaive's critical strike cleave a 4 meter cone in front of him.
Afterburn (A)
Dashes Glaive in a target direction, dealing crystal damage to all enemies in his path. After this, Glaive's movement speed is increased and his next basic attack will knock the target 5.5 meters in the direction he is facing.
Twisted Stroke (B)
Passive: Increases the AoE Cleave damage and increases critical strike chance. Active: Instantly executes a critical strike.
Bloodsong (Ultimate)
Passive: Generates Bloodsong stacks (20 max.) that provide bonus lifesteal. Active: Deal heavy damage to everything around Glaive in a 5.6 meter range. Consumes all Bloodsong stacks.
Overall,
Glaive has a fairly aggressive kit. Its very suitable for hitting enemies while they're tightly grouped, as well as punting enemies into
"..tactically fatal positions.." (Vainglory's Glaive Description).
I recommend watching pro
Glaive players, such has CullTheMeek, Iraqiizorro, and Sk Gaming.
Nonetheless, Let's discuss play styles.
Aggression
You can absolutely invade the enemy jungle in the early game, and
snowball into the final build. However. it's best to gain an item lead and try to farm safely.
Glaive can set up excellent ganks with his
Afterburn, and deal
immense burst damage with
Twisted Stroke and
Bloodsong.
Aggressive Glaive players benefit from small advantages, such as
Level Advantages,
Gold Lead, and
Positioning.
Tanky Glaive
Tank Glaive is a risky route to take, despite his high base health and base damage. If you are going to try and outlast your opponent,
Breaking Point and
Shiversteel are the way to go.
Bloodsong stacks are fantastic for keeping you alive, as they provide lifesteal on every bit of damage that you do.. Remember, these stacks can help keep you alive; using
Bloodsong aggressively early on in a fight can mean trouble for you. Pair the full 20 stacks with a Serpent's Mask and you'll be outlasting your opponents in no time, except for perhaps
Krul and
Koshka.
Dealing with Kiters
Heroes who can kite and poke very well, such as
Ringo,
Skaarf, and
Petal are high priority targets for Glaive and his team, as they can chip away Glaive's health without much worry of being killed. Though
Afterburn counters this somewhat, it's only available once every 19 seconds, unless you overdrive the ability. This is where
Clockwork and
Shiversteel can help.
Clockwork can allow you to use
Afterburn more frequently, while
Shiversteel keeps enemies in range of you, preventing them from kiting.
Keep in mind,
Afterburn can go through walls, making for
excellent tactical plays.
Best of luck to you Grangor Players!
