What you do with Krul and what items to get depends entirely on the situation. For example, if you see a Phinn with all Metal Jackets, get a Bonesaw and start shreding that armor. If you see a high crystal power Celeste, go bursty and get a Tension Bow.
A general rule for Vainglory - Only engage in battles you think you can win. Sometimes this can be a 2v1 with weak players, but usually it is only a 1v1 with a melee. Don't get kited, as Krul's main weakness is his inability to speed boost without boots and to run away.
Late game don't get any Halcyon Potions, as your lifesteal plus the Serpent's Mask will give you all the health you need.
Most beginners use Krul when is free, and do decently, because Krul is a naturally OP hero with his recommended items. To beat them learn your abilities and know when to use them, how much health barrier they give you, etc. Make use of your perk, Shadows Empower Me. Stay in the bushes. An ideal combo for ambushing a single melee hero is Dead man's Rush --> Get stacks up --> Spectral Smite. For ranged heroes, it is a good idea to use From Hell's Heart --> Dead Man's Rush --> Spectral Smite. If you're in a middle of a battle, time your abilities correctly. Notice your stacks, and sometimes one stack before a smite is the difference between a kill and death. When facing enemy Kruls, keep track of his stacks. When his stacks are full, activate Dead Man's Rush to protect yourself from the massive amount of damage he has. When you see he has a large health barrier, don't use your smite. It is also a good idea to use your smite as a finishing move and only activate it when he has a tiny bit of health left. There are many more scenarios, and I have only outlined some basic ones. Understand your abilities to know what do do in other scenarios.
