Introduction Top
My IGN is Foundr and I'm playing in SEA server.
Samuel is the first hero I used when I started playing Vainglory. As a ranged player, I love being in control and making things really tough for my enemy.
Samuel uses dark magic and when used correctly, it is probably one of the most devastating heroes you can ever use.
Plus, what makes
Samuel unique is that it has many builds which you can mix and match (more on this below). As this is my first guide, do bear with me if there are any mistakes or leave a comment if you have something to ask. I'll try to answer them!
Samuel can be played in both jungle and lane, but due to its nature of the hero itself, Samuel is always best for lane.
Advantages using Samuel Top
- Flexible hero (works well in both lane and jungle)
- Can rain crazy damage or be a utility guy if your captain isn't doing what it is supposed to do
- Additional perks and seriously ranged attack (explosive with small AoE blast radius)
- Powerful ultimate
Oblivion which can put enemy to sleep (goof for CC control)
Disadvantages using Samuel Top
- Hard to master
- Playing smart is required as it is really squishy during early game
- Expensive to level up
- Gold reliant hero
- Require some sort of strategy and understand to utilize the hero completely
Building your way up Top
Lane
1. First 5 minutes
Remember you have your perk and this is really powerful. It is instant and I usually go with A then perk. If your enemy is having half life or just used the ability, this will most probably kill them.
Stay away from the bush on the right as there is always the possibility of being gank.
Bonus tip: When the enemy hero is pretty much lined up in a formation, drop your B and watch them run. Remember while your A is always more powerful in the circle, you have a direct, clear line of sight before you are able to attach them. I usually use my B to starve the lane carry and mess things up.
During your visit to the shop, grabbing a flare fun is good especially when you have
Taka or
Koshka as enemy. Watch them running away and can't do anything about it. Ouch!
In the first 5 minutes, I avoid overextending unless I know if my team is behind me (a good captain or jungler to backup).
2. Shop visits
My purchase after
Shatterglass is pretty much very situation based as I will go all Crystal if my team is slightly leading. If not, getting more utility first is important to make your enemy run away.
If you are wondering, I often get
Shatterglass to
Clockwork and
Flare Gun. After that, it will be either
Broken Myth or boots.
Additional tips Top
I find playing
Samuel as a utility guy is pretty much fun and highly effective. When you get
Contraption, you can pretty much wreck the enemy team in helping your team from being ganked. Plus, the trap is always a huge plus point.
Unless you know what you are doing, standing behind your tanker is good. With the A, I run to the front and fire the first shot to pull the enemy and tap back to reverse (kiting). When they fall for the trap, my captain and jungler are there to pound on them. It works all the time and you will be surprised how many kills you can get just from that.
In the early stages,
Samuel is really an energy dependence hero. Therefore, try avoid using too much energy on non-important combats. I usually keep half of my energy bar to prep for any sudden combat.
I use my C skill to save my team when they are being ganked. This helps them to buy some time and it goes a long way too!
Conclusion Top
I am still trying to perfect my
Samuel build and will be updating this on a monthly basis. Leave a comment and I hope you like this simple guide of mine!
