My first guide :) Top
Hi guys this is my first ever guide. I started playing Vainglory since November last year and I am currently on bronze Vainglorious on my guild account in SEA and I'm just playing for fun now and experimenting with builds. I specialise in ranged heroes and I started out using SAW as my main. I pretty much am all Petal now. Enjoy and if you need me to explain more about my build choices let me know. I'll be happy to reply.
There is a lot to read but bear with me thanks!
Edited: I accidentally made bramble thorn seeds a skill you up at level 5 instead of 1 lol sorry!)
First up: Weapon or Crystal? Top
The pink elephant in the room. First up let me say that both have their merits. As you know from my guide I'm building here a weapon petal but I'll just get to this question first.
Ask yourself are you an aggressive player ?
Do you take opposing minion mines when you have an opportunity to do so?
What heroes are you usually in a party with ?
Are you a laner or jungles primarily ?
Crystal based petals tend to spend a lot of time in the lane with turrets for protection owing to the fact that crystal power tends to work well with other Crystal based items stand alone Crystal items tend to make little difference between the start of the game till about the 6 minute mark. E.g. Swift shooter > Crystal bit in my opinion.
Get to the late game however you'll realise that a fully built Crystal petal with a well timed ULT could win your team an ace.
Weapon based petal is still my favorite only because it allows you to farm quickly regardless of being in jungle or lane (creep steals FTW) and built properly you can certainly hold your own and blast away and focused targets without worrying about your munions. It is easier to build because there are only 2 things you care about. Speed and Weapom power.
The choice however is still yours. I suggest you test them out but my rule of thumb is this, lots of tanky heroes Weapon softer heroes Crystal. This is just the way I play.
Early days still 1-6minute mark Top
Petal is one of the game's most devastating heroes. This is largely due to her range and ability to do quick burst damage or simply chase and finish off. It is however important to remember and I know we hear this so much but I'll say it again Vainglory is a
Team Game and so you should always abide by the 2 in 1 out rule.
Triple Jungle Invades
This is a tricky situation and its almost always a 50-50 affair. Teams with no control/tank heroes such as Catherine, Adagio or Ardan will usually come up a little short. This is why I build boots first, you can always bail out and heal and come back in when the odds are in your favor. 3 on 1 ganks would usually result in death but with boots at least you stand a chance of running albeit with little health.
Moving on
Assuming your team survive the jungle invade, remember if you are the only ranged hero your home is still up top in lane. Get your first swift shooter snd stock up on potions. Remember do not go back until you have at least 1700 gold. I know you can get 2500 but that is assuming you get EVERY last hit. Not really going to happen. And remember your range and the turret is your friend.
Roaming Duties
When should you roam? Always be map aware. Do not venture all the way to your minion mine that to me isn't roaming. Head to where your team mates are and position yourself at choke or exit points. No point going in and getting killed. When you have any opportunity to get the gold mine initiate it because you can get it down fast with your munions.
The mid game this is where it starts to get fun Top
As soon as you can build a blazing salvo and a heavy steel. Add more swift shooters and some weapon blades of you have spare cash. Remember that you are fragile so stick to the back and know your range.
Start building Towards a sorrowblade and then towards a tornado trigger. By the 13 min mark you should have one if not both those items. Once you do get tier 2 boots and build towards shiver steel.
Get a few flares and potions if you need but by this point a tower or two on either side should already be down.
Late game post kraken. Top
By this point your team should be together most of the time. Picking off heroes and waiting for that opportunity to get an ace to either win the game or release the kraken. By now everyone will be at full or almost full build. You can choose now to counter build or stick wth this. If you must discard something get rid of the sorrowblade sine you can buy infusions. A crucible or fountain will be good.
Why two triggers and two sorrowblades? Top
Because it is simple. 150% attack speed 40% crit chance and damage increase 300 attack power.
But what about breaking point?
Well I used to love breaking point but I realised the max avg amount of stacks I could get was between 12 to 15 yes it is a lot but with 2 sorrowblades it's like Christmas in an instant. Plus having breaking point is like painting a target on your head. I know my team almost always kills the guy wit BP first lol. Nothing much to learn just aim shoot and kill.
Having said that i included tension bow and a bonesaw as alternatives simply because the armour shredding properties are great against metal jackets and high armour heroes like Catherine.
Additional tips: with the new update always spend your cash on infusions
If you find you are now being targeted vary your build e.g get more defence.
Do not give up an ace in past the twenty min mark because it takes only 45 seconds to get all towers.
So here it is enjoy and hope to see you guys on the Halcyon Fold!
