Threat Hero Notes
1
Petal Despite recent updates, Petal remains an unsuccessful character - and the trampoline makes her even more useless. It is extremely rare you see her in a game, but if you do, just rush and finish her miserable life.
2
  No Threat
3
Ardan Simple to beat when he's alone; the real problem is when he has a teammate. Target him last in team fights and don't waste your rocket leap on him.
3
Glaive In a Joule vs. Glaive situation, Joule prevails. Stomp, slice, thunder. If Glaive is getting too much damage on you, especially from bloodsong, fall back with some boots and hit him with thunder strikes from afar.
3
Koshka Easy to take down with a support. Her short range makes her volunurable to your attacks, and your hits are generally stronger than her's.
3
Vox Simple to take down. His relatively short range puts him at perfect distance for some deadly thunder strikes.
4
Celeste Stomp, thunder, slice, thunder, and she's dead. Use boots to negate solar storm and rocket leap to close distance whenever you can.
4
Rona Rona isn't played much nowadays, but as far back as I can remember you should be able to take her down 1v1 as long as you dodge red mist.
5
Fortress To me, fortress is a weak support, but alone he can deal decent damage with his abilities. If you do see him in battle (which would be very rare), avoid using thunder strike and rocket leap; save those for the enemy carry.
5
Joule It all comes down to who has more gold and who has the best build. To get a slight edge, always use rocket leap first (though make sure you land on her) so you can get to attacking before the enemy has a chance to hit back.
5
Phinn Phinn has a lot of health and does hurt with his distance-reducing abilities. Take him down by poking with thunder strike and remember not to use rocket leap on him.
5
Skye Skye is only troublesome because she makes it tough for you to land your thunder strike. Besides that, you have greater damage potential, so you should win when it comes down to a 1v1 situation.
5
Taka Alike Skye, a strategic Taka can negate a lot of damage, especially through kaiten and x-retsu. This is when your predictive skills are needed most: Taka uses Kaku and you need to arrange your rocket leap so it perfectly lands on him. Also remember to thunder strike in the opposite direction (than the one expected) when he flips/slices through you.
6
Adagio Annoying with his slows, and can take a serious toll on you when he goes crystal power. Though you can beat him by constantly poking with thunder strikes from a distance.
6
Ringo Unlike Celeste, Ringo's slow is more accurate and will ruin your career if he catches you in the wrong place. Use rocket leap wisely and have boots in hand if you wish to take him down quickly and smoothly.
6
SAW A good SAW will build a lot of lifesteel and will have full stacks of spin up when you prepare to attack. To bring him down, you must use rocket leap and have a support to boost you or slow/stun him. If he starts a lifesteel rampage, back away and catch him by surprise when his stacks are low.
7
Catherine Hard to take down with her shield up. She deals nice damage from merciless pursuit and stormguard. As you most likely already know, you should only attack when her shield is down.
7
Skaarf Skaarf's goop puts you in a sticky situation when you're out of rocket leap. Catch Skaarf by surprise and stomp on her when she uses dragon breath. Make sure you don't run away when she uses it - this is a rookie mistake! Slice her twice and that should do the job.
8
  No Threat
9
Krul Recently Krul has been a real threat. With his full build of atlas pauldren, fountain of renewal, shiversteel, and breaking point, he will latch onto you until you die. The only way to successfully defeat him is to distance him from his team and quickly gank him 3v1.

Foreword Top

This guide is designated for jungle Joule. Joule should only play as a weapon carry when the laner goes crystal. Otherwise, approach a crystal build when playing with weapon laners as Ringo and SAW. It is harder for the enemy to counter your build if your team deals both weapon and crystal damage.

A Brief Overview Top

I feel it's best that I don't write out every detail about various strategies of Joule. Characters are meant for you to figure out, and that's the whole fun of playing a game: to create a unique play style. Also, every match is different - meaning that a single strategy cannot sum up the wide range of possibilities that can happen in a game. So, while I haven't written long blocks of text about exactly what you should do in every scenario, I have laid out a foundation from which you can feel free to develop your skills.

In the current state, Joule has very high damage potential; she can finish off a squishy target in fewer than three strikes. She is meant to be played by those with an "uncanny ability to predict enemy movements." However, her most notable downside is her slow attack speed, yet it's usually not a problem when you deal most of your damage in crits through Thunder Strike anyways. Joule is very advantageous in that she is naturally bulky, meaning you don't need to build much support items to make her tough to bring down. Yet you should be aware that with this build, it's a kill-or-be-killed situation, so make sure that every one of your abilities lands right on target. With that being said, happy hunting!

Notes + Answers to Common Questions Top

Listed are some of my recommendations/explanations about Joule's build.

Joule's passive ability gives her a ton of armor, so you would be wasting your money if you were to buy some more in hopes that you could negate enemy weapon power. Go for health items, as Fountain of Renewal / Crucible, instead.

I don't encourage boots in this guide because Joule doesn't particularly need them (compared to other heroes). You would benefit much more by saving up for weapon damage or picking up a Weapon Infusion.

Joule's Big Red Button should not be used to engage a team fight. Since this guide is for weapon power Joule, her ult is more of a scare factor and a sniping attack that lets her finish off already weak enemies.

Don't forget that Joule has Thunder Strike stacks, so make sure not to hit stuff aimlessly.

I recommend overdriving Rocket Leap rather than Big Red Button because 19s compared to 10s for stomp cool down is a big difference; it's the difference between using Rocket Leap once and twice in a team fight. Meanwhile, overdriving Big Red Button only adds a slight damage boost to your ult that is not necessarily needed.
