this is great man, fortress is one of the heroes i really loved from the beginning and playing this game again after sometime; boy things are really quite different. Thanks for the tips here and hopefully i'd get to do them right. I hope you could make one too for Varya! kudos
Congrats on editor! I don't see the pros/cons on Truth of the Tooth over Law of the Claw yet though although that may just be because I'm like oblivious to the obvious lol
Skaarf is very weak in the meta as of now. Skaarf has no Crowd Control, a very situational and easily dodgable slow, difficult lane farm, slow Jungle Clear, and very weak scaling of defensive Items. Skaarf cannot be played as a strong Jungler, Roamer, or Laner due to these. Skaarf dies to every single Crowd Control Gank, and his only form of escape is in Boots. Skaarf's Ultimate can be countered with Crucible, as Fortress has nothing that needs to be blocked, unlike if the roamer was Catherine or Ardan, as their ultimates are very dangerous and need to be blocked.
However in the case of Fortress as a roamer, Skaarf gains quite some power in team fights.
This is due to Fortress's Truth of the Tooth ability, which pairs very nicely with Skaarf's Fan the Flames.
A Vainglorious Gold level Comp is as follows:
Wp Glaive
Cp Skaarf
Roam Fortress.
The idea is that Fortress relies on Glaive's tankiness to absorb some of the damage, and in turn deals more damage himself by building a semi-carry build by including things like Poisoned Shiv and Aftershock, and sometimes even Bonesaw.
Also, this Comp holds a very bursty Combo that can be repeated several times in a fight.
Its also interesting to try out Grumpjaw in the place of Glaive, as Grumpjaw is tankier, and he can just Eat the enemy Vox and run off xD
I suggest including this Comp in your Guide, as it is viable in the current Metagame, where you see many Catherine's due to her Buff, and less Lances due to his nerf. This makes consistent Damage Characters like Skaarf and Fortress viable.
Yea i think skarff has not been in meta(in fact he hasent been in meta for a long time even at release)
Yes i think fortress and skarrf is good
No i dont think that fortress will help skarrf in escapeing a fight
And also no gold vainglorious player plays glavie jungle people only spam petal because shes in meta rn
Are you even vainglorious gold? You mention that Skaarf's only escape is boots but somehow think that after Fortress uses Truth of the Tooth and Glaive uses Afterburn it would be good to knock back an enemy to your team's side where only Skaarf is at? Idk what you smoking bro. Seriously the reason why vaingloryfire has the bad rep it does is because people keep giving trash advice like this while masquerading as experienced players.
Btw your poisoned shiv advice below is total ****. Fortress has innate mortal wounds already and the effect doesn't stack to reduce healing by an even larger percentage.
All jokes aside, I think this is a little too much cooldown speed. Three cooldown items makes it a lot less valuable, because cooldown stacks, but everytime it stacks on an item, its efficiency is reduced. I suggest cutting the Clockwork, and including a more counterplay offensive item. For example, against a Krul or a Reim, you may consider picking up a Poisoned Shiv to hinder their healing.
However, absolutely do not build Poisoned Shiv against Adagio, because I don't want you wrecking people who use my build ;-;
When do you think Truth of the Tooth should be overdriven before Law of the Claw? Most people say that Fortress is an aggressive early game hero and get Truth of the Tooth first to be able to catch up to enemies and try to go for the high risk high reward strategy. Thoughts?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'll think about that and add it to the guide. Check back again on Sunday.
Sometimes, I like to put scout traps in the enemy's bush- the one next to the first treeant as they come out of base. It helps to provide a little extra vision to see when they are farming, and when they rotate up to lane. Also, plant mines where the turrets are. This helps you with lane vision. Against flicker, put scout traps in the bushes on the top too, in case they try to backdoor.
Um kay but ik aome vaingloryious gold scout trap placement with good reasons
1:whenever you destroy a tower or tower is destroy place two scoutraps in the front of the tower and the back that way you would see if they are pushing
2:Behind enemy crystal sentry. This is a very useful scouttrap placement since it offers Alot of vishion.
3.Between the jungle shop bushes. This i see is pretty common even in low elos. This scouttrap placements offers offence vishion as well as some defence vishion if they decide to invade your jungle.
4.Above any of the 3 front towers. This is extremely useful since nobody walks upward side of the tower and 2 it provides tons of objective vishion this i find is more important then placeing at kraken
5.Lastly but not least Kraken. Many people put it near Kraken but if you want it so it will never dedonate place it behind kraken. The odds of the enemy hitting it are 20% chance rather placeing it near the kraken is a 60% chance
Ahh fellow Fortress lover... I have one question for you though. Most Fortress players agree that taking the final point of the ult is better than taking the overdrive on A. I find it interesting that you recommend in your guide to overdrive A instead. May I know your reasoning behind that?
Kraken and gold mine steal. Your wolves can't do that for you. Plus, your wolves won't be too much help if you're trying to deal damage or anything. They're mainly for vision, and I don't see the point in having to max that out. After all, you have scoutraps everywhere.
Use Fortress's ulti as a post-engage tool. Typically, you'll want to dive with your A, and then trigger your wolves to help create disarray, cause bleeding, make multiple targets, and nerf the enemy roam's FoR.
Hmmm your statement is wrong on so many levels. Maxing your A doesn't give you a big boost in burst damage and on the contrary, your wolves do deal quite a lot of damage and disrupt teamfights significantly. I'm not sure if you really understand how to play Fortress if you're using your ulti for vision. I can elaborate in much greater depth abt the uses of Fortress ult but I suggest you relook at what it provides you yourself. I'll just highlight one aspect of it - it grants you a massive amount of fortified health, making you pretty bulky when you activate it.
Ok, got it. Hopefully, this makes sense.
So let's start with his ult. They don't actually deal that much damage. I use them for vision and a distraction. If you don't max it out, they deal 40 damage per hit. If you do choose to max it out, they deal 60 damage per hit. So there is a change. Howeverrrrrrr, they'll disappear after 15 seconds either way. The duration is the reason why I prefer not to take the overdrive. The other reason why is because, in comparison, his A would probably be more useful.
Now lemme explain his A. If he does not take the overdrive, it deals 135 damage. If you do, it deals 180 damage. Plus, it gives the entire team a speed boost towards the target. Well, it's not too fair if I bring this up now because the Vainglory twitter account just tweeted it today... But in update 2.2, Fortress will deal 240 damage if you take the overdrive.
Okay, you know what. Now that I'm typing it, I can see where you're coming from lol. But it does come from personal experience, stealing the Kraken with his A. I've done it a couple of time before. His ult does grant you a massive amount of fortified health, which I guess is one reason to get his ult. Idk, maybe the ult is a better choice but it's mainly from, once again, personal experience. I'll try to get more info about this topic.
I prefer a ability over ult since fortress once suppose to be an offensive captain or roamer. Think about it, Overdriveing fortress a ability gives him and his team more lockdown, and oferdriveing his ult only grants fortress more attackspeed and forfeit health. I only can see maxing your ult over your a ability if you have a petal on your team or your going crystalpower.
Sigh. It's what I always expect. Fortress never gets much attention is always underrated. They were even the last hero on Broken Myth's Hero Tier List ;-;
You should add shiversteak since his jump ability acount as a auto attack making it easy to proc shiversteal. Also protector contract is not a bad last item(gives a bigger sheild then cruicble)
I do not recommend protector contract because although it does give you bigger shield, crucible gives you a 600 max health bonus.
As for shiversteal I added it. I didn't actually think about that.
Also nullway gauntlet is a stronger choice then fountain renewal for first item since most people buy fountain and nullway gauntlet counters fountain(dont recemend this item with fountain in the same build)
That is true, but most people won't get nullway gauntlet anytime during the entire game, so I don't recommend it. However, I will add a bullet about it at the end.

U shall use Fortress one day, and you shall thank the gods for being so awesome.
Um.
You...
Can...
No not really .-.

Fortress marks an enemy with Truth of the Tooth. Glaive uses the speed boost from Truth of the Tooth and Afterburn to land a fast stun that knocks a squishy enemy into your team. Fortress Law of the Claws him, and Skaarf Spitfire and Goops him. Then, Fortress and Skaarf continue to land basic attacks, all of which will be empowered by Law of the Claw and Skaarf's Fan the Flames. This causes a HUGE burst of damage which usually removes one enemy from the fight.
Its also interesting to try out Grumpjaw in the place of Glaive, as Grumpjaw is tankier, and he can just Eat the enemy Vox and run off xD

Alpha wasn't top.
As for shiversteal I added it. I didn't actually think about that.
