During your pick/bans, make sure that either your jungled or lamer has a stun or root, as Catherine works best with them. Also, Catherine benefits from allies such as Vox, Joule, and Glaive, who can quickly burst down their targets, because of how short her stun duration is at Lower levels.
In the early game, try to immediately rush a Fountain of Renewal, and perform a gank on the lane after 2 full clears of your jungle, as this will allow you to gain level 3, or at least come very close to doing so. If your bank is successful, immediately rotate back to the jungle, where the shop should be spawning, and pick up some builds for the Fountain. Rinse and repeat until a clear advantage begins to show in fights or one team loses a turret.
The mid game for Catherine is fairly simple. Spend more time in lane, because your jungled should be able to perform full clears themselves. Because you have probably already gotten a Stormguard Banner, clearing wacvs and applying pressure to the enemy's turret (assuming it's still there) shouldn't be difficult. Continue building items at a steady pace, and try to initiate picks and fights with your ultimate as often as possible. Don't be afraid to steal a kill or two. Remember to keep a good eye on the Kraken. Because there are no flares or scout traps in this build, you probably won't have much pit vision. Be sure to rotate theougj, preferably with your jungler, often. Any won fight should also immediately lead to a Kraken play, as death timers still are not that long.
Going into the late game, Catherine has a choice of three builds: Bruiser, Weapon, and Crystal. Each have their benefits, but they keep the core items of Fountain, Stormcrown, Crucible, and War Treads. Crystal is useful for players that trade with their reflector shield often, and this build greatly reduces the cool down of her ultimate. Weapon build is excellent for trading and sustained teamfighting, as the massive life-steal and long term effects of the Poisoned Shiv give Catherine a much more viable edge in teamfights, trading defense for damage. The bruiser build is the one that will be more useful for defending carries, however, as it contains a Contraption, which is incredibly important for stopping fights that are sure to be lost, such as Kraken plays or high-health turret sieges. This build is incredibly effective for games where your team is behind, as it allows for more map control and a larger amount of health. It happens to be my favorite build as well, just based on its versatility in relation to the other two.
Thank you for reading, and good luck on the Fold!
