Current Guide Status Top
Due recent suggestions the guide is under further changes and the newer builds are currently being tested. The new suggested builds include: a refined build item choice that may make
Glaive outrageously lethal (
Tyrant's Monocle) and a refined build for helping
Glaive sustain (May get a defensive item). So stay tuned.
Also please leave a suggestion for the build and we will test it out and this may change the guide. Thank you for taking a look at my guide and updates are coming asap.
[UPDATE]:
Special Case build (Altered with
Tyrant's Monocle replacing
Sorrowblade): Attempt 1
-Well, looks like you are right malgus23
Tyrant's Monocle may replace
Sorrowblade for better burst damage. Next test is on replacing the 2nd
Tornado Trigger with a
Tyrant's Monocle. We are testing the build with more attempts to get it more accurate and so there will be more updates to come...
Quick Guide Top
As you can tell there will be two separate builds, but will ultimately end in the exact same final build. One build path is for going against tanky heroes and the other is for squishy yet lethal. So there is no favoring of a particular build over the other its just the situation you are in.
BASIC CASES: So what build path is best? Well, unfortunately it isn't like one build will be all you need to master a hero. There are so many possibilities and situations that one build can't possibly be the right choice for every situation. Keep in mind that when a Squishy hero builds armor he can possibly turn into a tanky one so you may need some adjustments. The first build case down below is when you see that the enemy team is mostly made up of tankier heroes (When 2/3 or 3/3 of the enemy team heroes are tanky). The second is when they are mostly made up of squishy heroes.
SPECIAL CASE: Lastly a Special Case build is used when the enemy team can easily kite you and they can get in and out of team fights quickly so you need that extra sustainability, which is why we have you build Serpent Mask first. For example, Fortress is good for engaging team fights and disengaging them; Ringo is super good at kiting; Joule can escape and kite you with his
Thunder Strike. So its sometimes best to only engage into team fights when your whole team is with you and never go alone into battle.
You can check and see our list of Tanky and Squishy heroes in the next chapter and remember that any hero can become tanky if they build armor even if they are initially considered squishy.

Skill Tree Top
AFTERBURN: Why build the skills this way? Well, first off when you choose
Afterburn as your first skill it allows you to escape or ensure a kill. This is very important in the beginning of the game because there is a high chance that you might engage with the enemy and this skill will allow you to run if losing or get a kill if winning. This skill is also good for long range attack alternative if needed.
TWISTED STROKE: Next you upgrade
Twisted Stroke so that you can jungle quicker or do more damage to enemies. This skill should always be maxed because
Glaive is about attack speed so when he has an extra hit and its the strongest it can possibly be then you will get the edge when battling it out.
BLOODSONG: Finally for the ultimate,
Bloodsong, it really just upgraded regularly you know whenever its available to be upgraded. And like
Twisted Stroke this skill should be used to get another hit so that you can get an edge against your opponent. This skill is also good for finishing of a target when your auto attack and
Twisted Stroke skill is just out of reach.
How To Play With This Build Top
VULNERABLILITY: With this build
Glaive isn't completely safe from all dangers. If you are in the open and alone you are really easily killed, but you might take an enemy hero with you. If you are in this situation its sometimes better to start attacking the enemy so that you can heal yourself and while doing so you could possibly kill an enemy. Just rememeber that you should always let the Roam teammate check the bushes first and not ruch into a bush face first.
POSITION IS KEY: The way you need to play is different than if you were more tanky. Since you have zero armor you need to hide behind your Roam teammate and when the enemy team shows themselves then rush in with your
Afterburn and use your
Twisted Stroke skill on the squishiest enemy and let yourself just auto attack. Then once the fight initiated wait and look at the enemy's health and yours if your health is lowering more then use your ultimate skill,
Bloodsong. If their health is draining then wait till he tries to run then use it since it has more range than your auto attacks.
This part is super IMPORTANT PLEASE READ... this build for Glaive is not meant to be a hero who chases and gets his kill like
Skye can. Glaive with this build needs to be in the shadows on the scene hiding in the bushes and ready to launch in for a kill...like a wild cat...So keep in mind that I recommend that you should only engage when the enemy is trying to gank in the lane or when they try to attack something that is your team's. Also remember that if your teammates aren't decent enough to help you out when you are being attacked then this build won't really work. So I guess get good teammates.
Why No Armor Is Needed Top
As you can see in our Item Choices
Glaive doesn't have any defensive items. And there is a big reason for that. But I mean who needs armor when you can just sap the life outta someone else and replenish it with yours.
LIFESTEAL IS THE BEST ARMOR: So with his super fast attack speed build added onto
Serpent Mask
Glaive is basically invincible. When he is in team fights he just wrecks havoct. Even with a tower attacking him he can still ensure a kill since he regains his health so fast.
Early Game Decides Your Victory Top
PLAY IT SAFE: Once the game starts the most important part of the game is about to be initiated, the early game phase.
Glaive is really vulnerable in the beginning unless you have smart teammates; if your lane and roam teammates help you out and nit just leave you deserted then you may be able to ensure a kill. So like I was saying during the early part of the game, he is not the best hero to engage in fights with. You should play it safe and not try to get a early game kill.
FARMING: A big part for
Glaive is during the early game phase. If you don't get a lot of farm the fastest way possible then it will be a huge loss for
Glaive. So remember that you need to focus on farming and not as much on invading the enemy's territory since you might encounter the other team, which is the opposite of what you want when you play with
Glaive in the early phase.
