Introduction Top
Hello! So I tried making a guide for my main,
Petal Petal. Petal was the first hero I tried playing in a legit match when I joined, and I think she is a fantastic hero in the right hands. While many people discount her for "how quickly her munions die" or how squishy she is, I completely disagree. I think that Petal has incredibly high survivability and defensive capabilities for a Mage carry. Basically I really love playing her and I hope this guide helps!
Petal's Kit Top
So, a little bit on Petal's kit - her heroic perk,
Munions, allows her to summon up to three Munions, which are adorable little onion-esque creatures who fight alongside Petal. They can be summoned through the use of her A skill,
Brambleboom Seeds. Additionally, when Petal attacks an enemy, the enemy is marked with sunlight. When a munion bites an enemy marked with sunlight, Petal gains a 20%-60% boost in attack speed.
Skill A: [
Petal's A skill, brambleboom seeds, lets her plant a seed at her feet. This skill has an extremely short cooldown, and can be used in a variety of ways. Up to three of these seeds can become munions, which as mentioned above, fight alongside Petal. These seeds also grant Petal and her team vision in a small area. This is extremely useful for Petal, as she can use it to monitor enemy movement in the brush-dense jungle instead of taking up slots with flares or spending gold on scout traps. Additionally, these seeds explode when an enemy hero steps on them, dealing some pretty hefty damage and knocking them back slightly. This can be useful when Petal is running away, as enemies may step on the seeds while chasing her, allowing her a quick escape.
Skill B: [
Her B skill, Trampoline, allows Petal to jump forward in a selected direction, leaving a Brambleboom Seed at her starting location. This skill also amplifies Petal's weapon and crystal power for a short amount of time when used, by 30% and 40% respectively at Overdrive. This skill is insanely essential for Petal. Firstly, the jump allows Petal to run away from enemies quickly with its low cooldown and seed-planting nature, which can slow the enemy hero down. Secondly, this skill is excellent for dodging enemy attacks. In the jungle, many walls can be hopped over with this skill, giving Petal the chance to escape quickly while the enemy takes the scenic route. She can also dodge skills like
Phinn's
Forced Accord,
Catherine's
Merciless Pursuit as well as her
Blast Tremor,
Samuel's
Malice & Verdict, amongst many others. Additionally, the damage amplification can really help to turn the tide of battles when coupled with her ultimate.
Ultimate: [
Petal's ultimate, Spontaneous Combustion, explodes her munions individually to deal some hefty crystal damage to surrounding enemies, healing her and nearby allies. Her ultimate carries up to 3 charges, and is extremely useful when chasing enemies, helping to finish off fleeing enemies. The ability is best used directly after a Trampoline!, and when the enemy team is all grouped up. A triple detonation can easily bring the enemy team's health to barely surviving, and you can pick them off right after that with a couple of Munion bites. This ability is also particularly useful during teamfights, allowing you to heal your allies, damage your enemies and keep your distance all at once. When travelling up to the lane to support your laner, you can help to kill off the enemy laner with a surprise Trampoline // Spontaneous Combustion combo.
Explaining The Item Build Top
So, for Petal, her most important core items are a
Shatterglass and a
Frostburn. These two items help Petal stick to and finish off enemy heroes quickly. The
Shatterglass really ramps up the damage output on her munions, and the
Frostburn will ensure that her munions apply a continuous slow to her enemies, allowing her sustain damage to work its magic. Next, I chose to build towards
War Treads instead of
Halcyon Chargers because of the +500 health it provides. Additionally, together with the
Fountain of Renewal, makes Petal a fantastic semi-support, allowing her allies to escape, only to return to fight a moment later. Also, no matter what, boots are ESSENTIAL for Petal. She is slow and squishy, but with boots, she is super duper slippery and hard to focus. Next, the
Broken Myth gives Petal a crazy damage output. Petal has no problem getting those stacks due to her munions, and it'll amp up your damage by an unbelievable amount. Last but not least,
Aftershock is a good pick to deal with HP-heavy teams that just refuse to die. However, if you find that you run out of energy too quickly, you might want to either swap the
War Treads for
Halcyon Chargers, or the
Aftershock with an
Eve of Harvest and get some nice lifesteal along with it.
Pros and Cons, Role, and Playstyle. Top
+ Petal has fantastic semi-support capabilities with her Ultimate, and her seeds which grant vision.
+ Her sustain damage is a direct counter to heroes like
Catherine and
Krul, and her kiting capability is insane.
+ Extremely slippery. She can easily escape with a boots and a Trampoline.
+ Munions are great to use to bodyblock skills like
Kestrel's
Glimmershot, and
Skye's
Forward Barrage.
+ Brambleboom Seeds are great at causing confusion within enemy team as you nuke them to death.
- Performs poorly when alone. Petal, while still strong on her own, will more often than not need an ally to be present with her to ensure that ganks and ambushes don't wipe her out immediately.
- Can run out of energy easily if you (unwisely) spam seeds.
- Gets countered by AOE attackers, especially CP
Vox and CP
Koshka.
- Lower damage output than other mages or snipers.
Petal is generally best played in the jungle, where she can make epic getaways over walls with her B skill. Petal will want to hit level 12 as soon as possible, so the jungle is the best place for her to be. Additionally, her seeds grant vision, allowing her to control the jungle like the freaking jungle queen that she is. Also, laning a CP Petal will cause you to run out of energy extremely quickly. However, if forced to, Petal can lane with an uncommonly seen WP build, giving her crazy ambushing power, lifesteal and attack speed. But thats for an entirely different build.
Petal is well-suited for those players who love super adorable characters that practice the ever-handy skill of hit-and-run. Her munions chomp away at your enemies as she runs, before she Trampolines backward and Chernobyls the **** out of them. She has excellent basic attack range, and her munions will tracks for DAYS. Also, her quotes are super cute! (I'm not small, I'm just sitting down!)

Like, a Super Cool Conclusion Top
Overall, I think that Petal is constantly overlooked in the current meta because many players think that she doesn't damage as hard as other carrys, but can't support as well as other supports. But I think its her unique blend of being a carry, along with her support capabilities, that really makes Petal Petal. She is so slippery, and she is really fantastic at coming around at the last second to nuke the entire enemy team, heal her allies and hop her way to victory. While not crazy burst-y like some of her fellow carries, her sustain damage can make all the difference when focusing an enemy. Also, her short cooldowns mean that you never know what to expect from her. I really hope you all try out Petal, and hopefully fall in love with her mechanics! While I know this guide isn't super comprehensive, I hope it helped! xo
