Against Crystal heavy enemies you shouldn't get atlas paulddron, because they focus on using Abilties, not auto attacks. You should get metal jacket if the Crystal heavy people doesn't have too much burst potential. But if just for example Krul with clockwork and 5 ShatterGlass. You might want to get aegis and crucible to block 2 spectralsmites xD

Wouldn't the extra shield from Aegis (and health) be more useful against crystal-heavy enemies? Or is Atlas Pauldron active ability better for these situations?

No I'm not in NA im in SEA.

It's quite fine, but you should counterbuild and switch atlas Pauldron / metal jacket. You shouldn't get aegis unless you think you need 2 reflex blocks. Either too many crowd control or just have spells that deals tons of damage.
