Good guide, I was just looking at the other phinn guides and noticed this one was quite similar to mine, so I guess I have a good build if a champ uses something similar to it in tourneys. Phinn was my first roam main, and i got him with ice when he was in the one week exclusive. I'm happy to see he gets good use.
Great beginner Phinn guide
During my time there were no phinn guides
So I had to learn everything that was written here the long way
Anyways GL on the upcoming Champions battle(even though im from the SEA server =P)
Wonderful build, enjoyed the level of detail you've provided, far better than the usual waffle.
Quick question, I'll sometimes slip in a frostburn, dependent on how the game is going. Thoughts? I've found the additional slow along with his Arsenal of tricks makes it very hard for people to escape from phinn and it can also help an ally whilst in retreat.
Hi FlashX, in your team games, you are famous for not using (m)any scout traps and relying on flares. However, your whole team has amazing map awareness. How viable is it for mere mortals, to follow your limited scout trap technique (because CS score in jungle can tell you where enemy might be, if you are super good) ? And does the extra gold you can spend on items enough of an edge for normal tier 7/8/9 players? And also, with CS score potentially being hidden in future updates, do you think scout traps will become more important? If you have time, Many thanks in advance for your answer.
I grew up playing both Dota and then Dota 2. A very common mechanic is simply making educated assumptions on where the enemy team might be because the map in Dota is simply too large to be covered by vision. I simply translated that same mechanic into Vainglory. In 1.17, we were introduced to the mechanic that prevents the scoreboard with items from being updated until vision of the other team is gained. I don't feel as if this change has had very much impact on the importance of scout traps especially during the early game. However, late game vision is particularly important especially when people start purchasing infusions. If you don't have vision of the enemy team, they could all come out of their jungle shop with double infusions. But again, using flares at this point and determining whether or not your team has this advantage is very important.
I would honestly advise lower tier players to buy scout traps. Especially when playing in a solo queue situation. Players just don't have the game knowledge or alertness to effectively keep track of different jungle rotations nor the proper tools for communication in order for this to be an effective strategy in regular solo queue.
I'm no expert in roam phinn, but I don't think a frostburn is good on any support, save... roam petal perhaps. Frostburn will only benefit Phinn if he lands his abilities, and that slow plus a bit of CP is not really worth the cost. If you want to keep enemies close or help teammates retreat, a warhorn or shiversteel can do those things as well as add additional defense stats, which in the the end is what Phinn should build up on over crystal power. As a roam.
I main Phinn when roaming, his polite company will effect everyone within a radius, if your looking to imitate or flee using the ability with frostburn will slow everyone whilst providing a nice little CP bump to all your core skills. Ill take the team slow over a one off shiversteal basic attack all day long (try landing one with Phinn, it's not easy when your that slow).
It's a situational item, like most roam items, but it's something to consider when your boss in the opposition.
I find that he frost burn is ok, but not optimal in some situations, consider the 3 second codlin on it, if you use quibble and waste it what then. (technically 4.5 second). but it also has very good use if used properly, so it all depends on preference.
