Threat Hero Notes
1
Celeste Your sister cannot keep up with you. If you'd like, you could even start the game with your a just to dodge her Heliogenesis. That's one of the reasons. Reflex block her Solar Storm and dodge her A and B, which are easily telegraphed. Very easy to burst down too.
2
Petal Heh...the plant. The munions are annoying, yes, but Resonance easily takes care of them, and Petal at the same time. Spontaneous Combustion is very, very powerful. Sonic Zoom or Reflex Block to safety. She's often very squishy, so get in close and dance! I mean, attack.
3
  No Threat
4
Kestrel Two heavily skill-based characters...the epic revenge showdown (avenge the goat!)? Dodge (doge) those Glimmershots! Avoid the mist from her Active Camo! Dodge the snipe! Catch her alone and chase her down. While long ranged, cowardly Kestrels will collapse under pressure (this goes for anybody really). If I cannot emphasize this any more, AVOID THE SPOT WHERE SHE DISAPPEARS.
5
SAW Not the most mobile hero, if you get cocky you'll find yourself filled with lead! Or fireworks. Or a knife. However, he is NOT as tanky as he seems! He is easily bursted down, so make sure you have your team with you when you go in!

  No Threat
7
Taka A threat to everyone, consider getting a Fountain of Renewal instead of Reflex Block for his insane burst damage. Always carry flares. Stay far north in lane and close to your turret. Scout up! Then there's no way for him to sneak up on you.
8
Adagio This...fabulous demon-angel is very, very annoying. His range is massive! and he can set you on fire for steady tick damage with Gift of Fire. He's fine as a roamer, but you will definitely have to watch out for lane Adagios.
9
Ringo This drunkard's quite the nuisance. He outranges you and outdamages you early game. Wait for him to overextend (bad Ringo players will always do that) then punish. It helps to dance in and out of his range. Consider buying armor early.
9
Catherine This is the worst roamer to face. Ironic, considering she killed Vox's mom. She has a stun AND a silence, and they both can do lots of damage. You might think, "Oh hey but Phinn has a stun too. Surely he may be just as bad a matchup?" But you see, Phinn is the slowest character in the game. His stun is slow and has to be aimed. Meanwhile, Catherine's stun is auto-aimed, and it even gives her a good speed boost, allowing her to lock you down instantly. In the middle of a fight, there's no telling when the stun's coming, so Reflex Block isn't much of a help unless you're being chased. By that time you've already used it.

Intro Top

Hi, I'm DaforLynx. I'm not all that good or experienced, but I've been playing Vox since at least December 2015. He's my favorite laner so far - he has above average mobility, amazing burst potential, and great at chasing down those fleeing opponents. Coming from (and still into) Smash Bros., I know a lot about movement. Stutter-stepping, Vox's core technique, is somewhat like dash-dancing. Anyway, in this guide I'll discuss what makes Vox really good, as well as some general strategy. Like Vainglory itself, this guide is a work in progress.

Pros and Cons Top

Pros:
  • Has insane burst AND group damage potential with CP
  • Has a very quick, low-cooldown juke ( Sonic Zoom)
  • Has above-average chasing potential ( Sonic Zoom and Pulse)
  • Has a GLOBAL silence ( Wait for It)
  • Witty, young guy (like Taka)
  • Very fun to play, I think we can all agree!
Cons:
  • Has one of the worst early games out of all the characters - very item-reliant
  • Very reliant on stutter-stepping - if you don't know how to, look up a guide and practice
  • Pretty squishy and, while excellent against groups, doesn't do too well solo against one
  • Requires you to be FED LIKE FED-EX by the time midgame rolls around to deal that extreme damage. So if you can coordinate a good early-game jungler that would be good.
  • Has rather lackluster skins (although Cpt. Vox Sparrow is cool and all) - but there's still tier III!
  • Doesn't play that significant of a role in his lore. He's just Celeste's bro with a good taste in music.
That's all I can think of right now.

Item Explanations Top

Alternating Current

This is what allows you to keep farming into the late game! With some more CP you can perfectly 2-hit the small minions. The extra firing speed also helps immensely in that early game farm!

Void Battery

Even though you have fast attack speed, doesn't mean you don't rely on abilities, like, 24/7! This will seriously step up your lane game since you don't have to bring 50 Halcyon Potions every time you report back. Later you can upgrade this to an Eve of Harvest for increased damage and survivability.

Broken Myth

This is where most of Vox's damage output comes from. The shield pierce will take care of foward-thinking opponnents. During fights that drag on, you can soon gain an edge through Broken Myth stacks! In fact, a fully-stacked Broken Myth can do more damage than a simple Shatterglass! But what happens when you combine the two?

Shatterglass

This increases damage output immensely, so getting this at any time will be beneficial. Combined with Broken Myth and Pulse, your attacks will be INSTANT DEATH to the entire enemy team! That is, if you can get there fast enough...

Travel Boots

I feel like boots are one of the more underrated of items. The sprint is almost like a Flash from LoL, but the real benefit to Vox comes from Travel Boots. Getting these early will get you into and out of fights much quicker, plus insane juking ability early game as you weave in and out with movement speed and Sonic Zoom. Just great. Plus, health regen is always nice!

Reflex Block

What's an escape with out a Reflex Block? Not an escape, of course! This is so useful for getting out of sticky situations, combined with Travel Boots and Sonic Zoom(which can also inflict pain on your pursuers). I recommend getting this as your first defense item and then upgrading it to an Aegis. Leave the Crucible to the roamer, they should know what to do. However, if you are facing a heavily WP comp, get some armor instead ( Atlas Pauldron). It'll help.

Abilities Top

Let's review Vox's abilities:

Julia's Song

This heroic perk is similar to Celseste's as it amplifies basic attack power with your CP, which makes CP Vox all the better! Additionally, enemies marked with Resonance (this includes monsters, minions, and miners) will have "Resonance bounces" bounce off them and onto nearby enemies, damaging them depending on CP. Apparently the song "Julia" is by the Beatles.

Sonic Zoom

A very fast, cost-efficient juking move. Use it to escape and to cross over certain corners. Fancy!
Oh yeah, did I mention that enemies within range marked with Resonance will have two, not one but TWO basic attacks thrown at them as you move? You can escape AND attack AT THE SAME TIME! Is that cool or what. Other applications include chasing down enemies with little health, dealing IMMENSE BURST DAMAGE to groups, and just being an excellent juke. The overdrive ups the basic attacks' weapon damage by 20%, but we don't need that here.

Pulse

This is the crux of Vox's entire kit. A circle expands outwards, acting like a radar and marking enemies position briefly, just for you. You can check bushes this way, but it uses quite a bit of energy early game and flares are just more reliable. Additionally, enemies caught by the circle are slowed depending on how close they are to the center, and they are also marked with - you guessed it - Resonance. So you can slow them and then immediately fire two quick shots at them. If you have Alternating Current you can fire four attacks in less than 2 seconds with this technique.

Wait for It

Vox's ultimate may not seem like much at first. It fires two shots, a long beam and then a sort of ki blast that damages a medium amount. OK...but get this: the beam silences enemies, so they can't react with abilities, AND marks them with Resonance, which means that the blast that follows will bounce between them, causing massive damage to groups! If you aim carefully (it's not that hard) you can silence all three enemy heroes, then damage them! Not only that, but, it being so quick, the silence is very hard to predict and Reflex Block! While you may think that this is purely an initiating tool, think again! When chasing an enemy, you can quickly use it on them, so they can't use boots or any shenanigans, and then (if they didn't die from the blast) finish them off with Sonic Zoom! Butt wait, there's more! Overdrived, this ability's cooldown is about 30 seconds - which means you can potentially use it twice in the same fight! Also, you'll have Broken Myth stacks at that point - massive damage! gagjagjpogjaioasdfg

In conclusion, yeah, this guy's broken.

General Strategy Top

Laning

Vox is a laner. That means you start out in the wide-open lane, where minions perpetually try to get to the enemy Vain. Luckily for you, they all seem to have gold coming out of their ********s! which of course means when you kill them you get that gold. An important note to add is that YOU have to be the one to kill them. This will garner you Creep Score (CS) and lots of gold, and some XP. However this is not a complete general laning guide. This concerns Vox only.
Last-hitting safely is tricky when you are the shortest-ranged sniper hero in the Fold. Position yourself northwards and on your turret's side, and almost never should you cross that center line. If that Ringo tries to aggressively harass you right from the start, do you fight back? Heck, no! Pulse to slow them and then run closer to your turret. If you feel confident, then, and they are slightly extending, go ahead and fire one or two shots at them. A great strategy is to Pulse all the minions AND the enemy hero, then try to attack the minions closest to the hero. The resonance bounces should hit the hero, and if you have enough CP, they can deal a lot of damage. Once you hit level 2, you're much safer now that you have Sonic Zoom. There's a slight power increase as well, so it's easier to last-hit minions.
Keep doing this until you've driven your own minions into the enemy turret. That should keep the other laner occupied, so go ahead and report back, buy items, and return to lane.
DO NOT LEAVE THE LANE! DO NOT LEAVE THE LANE! unless by some unforeseen chance you get the chance to land a snarky little kill steal. Hey, it's not your jungler's fault they can't chase properly! For the most part, stay in the lane, gradually earning gold, unless your team requires help with the Gold Mine. Once you get at least two tier 3 items, Reflex Block, and Travel Boots, you can afford to roam around a bit.

Late Game

By now you should have at least three tier 3 damage items, Reflex Block & some shield, and your boots. Now is when you can support your team more! Remember that you're a "sniper"; stay somewhere in the back lines until someone tries to escape. Use your silence wisely, and keep attacking! Spam Sonic Zoom! In the case that someone does attempt to escape, have your Reflex Block ready and (here's an important bit) Sonic Zoom, Pulse, attack, THEN Sonic Zoom again. This way you get them as close to the center of the Pulse as possible, slowing them down for as long as possible, which then allows you to let loose! Of course, there are some subtle points to chasing, like flanking, getting assistance from your support, etc., but this is just an outline.
While Vox isn't THE best chaser, he excels most in group fights, where his Wait for It and Resonance'd basic attacks deal the most damage. You can choose to initiate with Wait for It or save it for later, but apply resonance on as many enemies as possible and groove away! 'cause you just swept them out.
Quick note: don't waste your B or A on the Kraken, turrets, or Vain crystal as it won't work with them for some reason. When you win, give them the ol' dance!

Also, although I'm not affiliated with this player, Medic's Vox guide helped me a lot when discovering Vox. It deserves a read.
Apparently BenTimm's favorite laner is also Vox. Yay.
