I'm
Brad Chmielewski, the host of the weekly Vainglory podcast,
Shatter The Vain. I'm also one of the three hosts of the weekly podcast,
The Lane. Each and every week on The Lane we chat about MOBAs, game design, and share tips and things that we love between several MOBA games. I started playing Vainglory right before the North American launch.
I play a lot of different support heroes so I know the benefits of making sure your team can succeed. The few games I've been able to play as
Blackfeather I find that going crystal and utility items can unlock some very powerful effects not only for
Blackfeather but for his team as well. If you're planning to go Crystal power, I'd recommend taking
Blackfeather into the Jungle where you can have some good success in making sure you and your jungle partner can get ahead.
The pros and cons of playing Crystal Blackfeather.
PROS
Lots of poke damage
High mobility
CONS
Weak early game
Difficult to last hit due to low weapon power
Must have a good team to back him up
Basic stats for
Blackfeather will feel very similar to Ringo. So if you're familiar with Ringo on the amount of damage you can output or take in those level one fights then
Blackfeather shouldn't be an issue to understand.

Heartthrob
Slot: Heroic Perk
Blackfeather's attacks and abilities apply Heartthrob stacks to enemies. Any time stacks are added or refreshed, Blackfeather deals bonus crystal damage for each stack already on the target.
- Bonus damage: 5-10 (level 1-12) (+18% of crystal power).
- Max 2 stacks on minions & monsters, 5 stacks on heroes & objectives.
- Stacks appear as broken hearts around enemies.
- Instead of energy, Blackfeather uses Focus for his abilities. This is capped at 100 and naturally regenerates 10 per second. Blackfeather also recovers and additional 10 focus for each basic attack he lands.
|
Blackfeather’s heroic perk attacks and abilities apply Heartthrob stacks to enemies. This stacks twice on minions and monsters and up to five times on heroes and objectives. Any time stacks are added or refreshed, Blackfeather also deals bonus crystal damage for each stack of Heartthrob already on the target.

Feint of Heart
Slot: A
Blackfeather lunges to his target with a thrust of his sword, then gains 2.2 bonus movement speed for 3s.
- If the target has full Heartthrob stacks, it deals bonus weapon damage based on target's missing health
- Overdrive: At max rank, the cooldown for Feint of Heart is reset if the target is killed within 0.5s.
- Execute damage is capped against non-heroes.
- This ability triggers basic-attack effects.
|
Feint of Heart is Blackfeather's A ability. When Blackfeather lunges to his target and performs a basic attack. For the next 4 seconds, the target leaves behind a rose trail that grants Blackfeather and his allies move speed when moving through it. This is where that unity is going to come into play for your team. Because of this utility you're going to want to choose this ability when you can and overdrive when you have the option.

On Point
Slot: B
Blackfeather pierces all enemies in a line, damaging them.
- Overdrive: At max rank, On Point gains increased range.
- If this hits at least one enemy hero, Blackfeather also gains a 2s barrier that scales with 5% of his bonus health and recovers 40 focus.
- The amount of focus recovered is further increased with 2% of his max energy and 50% of his energy regen.
- Deals reduced damage to minions.
|
On Point is Blackfeather's B ability. Blackfeather pierces all enemies in a line, damaging them and applying a decaying slow for 1 second. The duration of this slow is increased by 0.3 seconds for each stack of Heartthrob on the target. Make sure you have applied a few stacks of Heartthrob before using this. You'll lunge in with your A ability giving your team that movement speed buff and then applying that slow to make sure you or your team can clean up the kills.
|
Rose Offensive
Slot: C
Blackfeather dashes and slashes all enemies along his path.
- During the dash, Blackfeather is immune to negative effects and has fortified health.
- This ability has 2 charges.
- This ability triggers basic-attack effects.
|
Rose Offensive is Blackfeather's ultimate. If you are a fan of Vox's sonic zoom then you'll love this ability. When you use this skill Blackfeather cuts through his opponents; basic attacking all enemies along his path. During the dash, Blackfeather is immune to negative effects and takes greatly reduced damage. This ability has 2 charges. Again those basic attacks are important because you're getting those Heartthrob stacks on the target.
Weapon power might be the recommended way to build Blackfeather but don't let that stop you from giving Crystal Power a try.
Thank you very much for reading my guide, I hope you enjoy playing Blackfeather and please
tweet me photos of your victories. Shatter The Vain!
