As we all know, Petal is one of the most versatile characters in Vainglory. With her kiting/poking abilities, natural high basic damage and range, awesome destructive ability power and fear inspiring cuteness, she is always a welcome addition to a team... But I've seen so many "
SUPERPOWER ULTRA MEGA CRYSTAL POWERED PETAL" and "
SUPREME WEAPONIZED BASIC POWERED PETAL" builds that at some point all fail, so I thought I'd attempt to find a decent "middle path" for her instead. A Petal that can be used in lane as well as jungle, 1 vs 1 in hero battle, team fights, 1 vs kraken, 1 vs tower and finally survive ganks. I've seen several good
hybrids and
tanks, but no real "
all-arounder"...
Therefor, my starting point was to focus on boosting both her basic as well as crystal ability, whilst providing her with a way to escape when needed to... But what does she need to function? Her skills require a lot of energy, and her 3rd skill has a long cool down... So she needs either good recharge ability or lots of backup energy... And items that reduce cooldown. And as for sustainability, most people go with life stealing from aftershock/eve of harvest combo or serpent mask... But they always seem to add a health regen item on top of that. That gave me the first clue to this build...
1.
Warhorn... The one item that gives petal a boost of speed when needed, a energy/life regen AND a cooldown reduction of 30%... Making the item perfect for her shortcomings. And then there's the bonus 35 true damage vs non heroes as well, AND the little bit of extra cash from when you have the ironguard contract...
2. The second item I decided on was the Alternating Current. This was since I needed a way to boost her ability power AND her basic attack by using only 1 item. Bonus speed and crystal power plus added damage to basic attacks, check.
3. When using alternating current alone, she didn't dish out the damage fast enough, and seemed to lack a certain "umpfh" to it... So I started testing different weapons. Tyrants Monocle worked nice in the beginning, but I noticed that the speed thing bothered me. Tension bow was only good for first hit... Breaking Point took too long to pack a punch... So I was both thrilled and yet a bit worried when I tried Bonesaw. It really did the trick and boosted Petal just the way I wanted, but it was expensive... But I wanted it still.
4. Then came the last and often most important choice to a build... Defence. After careful consideration I narrowed it down to crucible or shiversteel, since the bonus HP would work against both weapon and crystal damage... But even though reflex block is awesome, the price wasn't in range for crucible... And Shiversteel could cover for the lack of a frostburns slowing ability as well... So Shiversteel became the final choice.
5. Boots... Get em, upgrade, wait, upgrade again... Everybody knows the silent fifth item :)...
6. Consumables space... But I tried with piercing shard as well... But I didn't notice much of a difference. Still play testing this item for this build.
