Introduction to Skaarf Top

Hello there, my name is LuluTia. This is my first written build on this site and I hope you enjoy reading this.

Now... who is Skaarf? Well, I'm assuming you've read the basic information of Skaarf, or have played him a few times and now looking around here to get better. Just a reminder to those looking for a simple guide that this guide will explore Skaarf more in depth. Beware, wall of text incoming.

It saddens me that not a lot of people play Skaarf. I often play this hero and literally out of the dozen of games I've played with him, I have only contested with the hero two or three times, even a much lesser chance to have the exact same hero as the enemy. And when I do get a teamate or enemy that plays Skaarf? They usually play below average.

And I understand why. Skaarf is so darn soft! Unlike Skaarf, at least someone like Ringo has TWO escape abilities despite being squishy himself, those two abilities make up for it. Skaarf only has one. Not to mention that it is aimed as well. And if he gets aimed and stunned first? Welp, ur ded.

His ultimate is somewhat predictable, showing a big sign that warns EVERYONE that he is charging up. Then he gets stunned just as he is about to burn the enemies and dies immediately.

And trust me, it's embarressing to screw up your ultimate.

But I hope this guide will help you in becoming the most feared hero on the battle field.

Playing Skaarf Top

For your early game items, it will be two potions and the energy battery to sustain your mana while laning. It is crucial that you try and control the lane as much as possible. Skaarf's fireball is ridiculously powerful early game. Remember, try to always hit the hero with the fireball and a follow up basic attack. Becareful not to take too much damage yourself as the creeps will start attacking you, it's more important to save your health than to get that few tiny bits of damage on the hero. The fireball alone will do enough.

When you know that you have gotten a considerably better farm than the opposing laner ( and it's safe go ), head down to the middle shop and buy a Chronograph.

Why go for the Chronograph instead of the void battery? Because you're going to play a lot more agressively, and those few seconds off your cooldown means more things you'll burn.

Actually, I should explain why I go for the clockwerk first before anything else.

I think that Skaarf doesn't need any more mana regen beyond the potion and clockwerk. Mana regen is honestly something I barely reconsider after I've gotten clockwerk. You're a soft squishy hero that hits like a truck. Buying defensive items beyond Journey boots and Fountain of Renewal ( and only because it helps the entire team as well ) is counter productive. Not to mention clockwerk's cooldown removal helps tremendously on stacking high amounts of flame.

Heck, most of the items I buy just end up being solely focused on increasing my fireball damage. I only go straight for boots if I'm feeling scared.

Seems reasonable right? Go straight for Journey boots for the extra protection.

Well, you're still wrong, kind of. Think aggressively. Always think aggresively. If you think that building straight for the crystal items will kill, or at least lower the enemy team's overall HP for your teamates to pick them off, then go for it.

Don't get greedy for kills, if you end up dying in every team fights but your teamates come out victorious, it's a win situation. Don't try to snatch some kills if you think your teamates are able to win the game themselves. Of course, if you think that the game will go on, it's better to fatten yourself up as well as you don't want to be TOO weak.

There's a lot of thinking here is there? Skaarf is pretty hard. One bad move can mean A LOT. So be careful.

Check the bushes with your fireball and see if you hit something. Be aggressive with your mana, but keep your distance. Only fireball if you're sure it'll hit them. This guide build focuses solely on damage, so you'll be somewhat mana starved through out the game.

Sounds relatively easy right? Until you end up with an annoying hero like Taka that was pretty much made to killing off the dude in the farthest back of the fight. In these situations, I've learnt that sticking inside your teamates ( heroes and non-hero units have NO COLLIDE ) makes it difficult for basic attack heroes to hit you, they end up hitting somebody else. Don't try to run away. I've made this mistake myself.

If your teammates have already settled on attacking someone. Help them and attack said enemy. Better to take out one hero so you can immediately outnumber the opposing team and get an advantage. There are some scenarios where your teammates are attacking the wrong hero, in that case, better take up leadership and ping on the heroes that needs to be killed fast, like Ringo. ( Just don't ping the question mark excessively, it annoys your teamates, the last thing you want is an uncooperative teamate )

Another thing I've seen Skaarf players do, placing goop before fireballing them. <---- NO.

NEVER EVER do that. It is much easier to set them on fire FIRST, then just spit out goop on the enemy you think should be hit first. Keep in mind on where you place the flaming goop too, as that is also important.

Lastly, your ultimate.

Always let your teamates go first to bait out the stuns. I NEVER ultimate first because that would be too predictable, and the enemy team will make sure to save up their stun for you. In that case, always fireball first and only ultimate at the last second, when you are all running, or chasing an enemy hero. Never ultimate to initiate a fight, EVER.

And that's it I guess, probably not. I typed this in one sitting, and I'm sure I've left out some parts unexplained. ( not to mention the bland wall of text ) I shall update this guide later on to polish it.

For now, I shall call this version 0.1.

Thank you for reading.
