Protector Contract falls off at around mid game, and almost any utility/defense item is better in my opinion. It doesn't give you that much barrier late game and items like Contraption and Stormcrown are much better items for games over 15 minutes
Thanks for saying that, I need to make it clearer in the guide why I would ever keep protector contract around 20 minutes into a game. Basically, I only keep it if I'm trying to buy something like echo. Vooid battery is the item Im required to buy if I don't have the gold to just straight up buy echo.. but I'd rather have protector contract still over a void battery. In most cases, I will sell the contract before 17 minutes though
Additionally I think that Protector Contract is redundant with Ardan. He has Vanguard, in my opinion the 300 gold would be better spent elsewhere. I'm not a fan of Protector Contract in general, but I could understand the argument for certain captain characters. In my opinion Ardan and Phinn are two that don't need it as it's built in to their abilities. It's not really about being "tanky" either because I could even understand an argument that Catherine could benefit from it because outside of her stun she really has no way to protect her teammates or help them escape, and even her stun is enemy focused and doesn't help a teammate that is taking damage from multiple targets, as where Vanguard is an escape and a barrier built into one.
That makes a lot of sense but I don't feel protector contract is redundant on any hero, personally. Is it a necessity? Not really. Still it can be useful and especially against poke or burst heavy enemies. Vanguard by itself is very strong, when you add protector contract on top of it, it's almost pointless to attack the shielded teammate IMO
