Even though I am not the one who made this guide, I believe that it is not at all necessary for Malene to be aided by her support at all times. She has one of the strongest early games, while also having 2 escapes at her disposal. Meaning that it is very forgiving if she messes up even with her team not being around. That being said she is still an extremely squishy hero with a very low range compared to other mages, meaning that you will have to kite a whole lot and often tank some damage in order to CS or poke your enemies. In this scenario, a healer for me is ideal as they keep me healthy while I engage to burst a squishie and then back away with a sliver of health left. Any good laner should stick to their team and not overextend on their own, but since Malene is so forgiving to ganks and all-ins, she is pretty viable to roam and all-in in my opinion.

Pretty much anything can be amazing if played right, but for Malene in my opinion would be better as a mid laner. While she definitely can be viable as a jungler, she is still a fairly squishy hero so her camp clear speeds won't be the best. Since the update was pretty recent as well, we'll have to wait and see if utility junglers will still be valued more than a regular carry jungler.
