Sorry if this is insulting, but Captains DON'T buy any crystal or weapon power. Captains are not meant to farm and earn gold. Because of this, they don't have the ability to buy any expensive weapon and crystal items( with the exception of echo with captain Grace, Catherine, Lance, Phinn, and maybe even Captain Lyra). Well, since you main Roam, I can give a little bit on insight on who is the meta right now. Catherine is still one of the best captain heroes in the game despite the nerf. The only time it is a bad choice to pick cath is when there is a healer in the other team with another sustain hero(aka Lyra + Krul) and it is kind of impossible to out sustain them.
