Sorry in advance for long post, but IMO it's not really so much about who you pick up but how you play the laner's role. I think there's 3 very important things you need to be a competent laner: 1. Last hitting (quite obvious) The golden standard I heard is supposedly 10 last hits/minute, although usually I find this only happens to a laner who is already ahead of their opponent.
