Oh you need to play the play mode. Don't tap the one that says BATTLE ROYALE. That game mode gives you random heroes every time. In the play mode, all you have to do is find Phinn in the hero list and lock him as your hero.

Equip the skin? If you want the skin, go to the craft skins page and find the skin you want to craft. Tap it you need to craft the lower tiers before you can craft the higher tier version of the skin.

Cards don't give characters. Cards are for skin crafting. You need to buy the hero you want to play.
