these are some tips I have made for anyone new to VG and I'd like to ask those who already have played VG for a while to pass these on to others so that maybe we can reduce the amount of auto-lockers, hero stealers, etc. also go ahead and tell me anything you feel should be added, removed, or revised on this list:
1:Never lock in a hero the moment you select them
unless you are the only one who hasn't locked in a hero please wait to lock in. sometimes a team can pass without a tank or proper jungler but quite a few times it just leads to a loss. say you are going jungle but someone else has that selected, unless you are willing to share the jungle with your teammate pick a different role or try to see if they will give you the jungle position this also goes for laner but try not to lock in as a roam character if its already been selected as you could you the extra damage.
2:Dont lock in heros others have selected.
one issue I have with VG is that others can lock in a hero you have selected. its beyond annoying and just leads to problems.
3: pick your role before you lock
this just makes it easier on everyone else in your team as some heros can be played with different roles. ive thrown matches before all because I was stuck with a character that couldn't play the role that I had to play because no one else selected a role and took the ones I could play. let people know what you plan to play so they can adjust to it.
4:be willing to give up your selected role if another wants to play that role
now typically if someone else selects a role before you can you just play something else. however (and this mainly applies to players who have played for a long time) if you know how to play other roles and someone else chooses yours and just doesn't seem to be giving it up go ahead and switch your role. it doesn't hurt to have to play a different role for one game.
5:play roles you're not used to
This entirely applies to new players. play something your not used to for a while and it will make you much better eventually. don't be afraid to lane if all you've done is roam so far. ive gotten to the point where I can play jung and roam equally well and lane just a little bit worse then roam and jung. so what if you go 1/13 that's better then you've ever done before if this is your first time with that role. don't shut yourself out of every other role because you will never get better.
Why fix a game when you could just make it completely broken?
