i have a suggestion to fix/stop players that AFK. Putting them in a group of AFKrs doesn't work, in my mind. I think first offense, warning. Second offense in 48 hours gets a 12 hour ban, unable to play. Make sure to pick off their IEMI so they don't just make a new account. Third offense in a week earns a 24 hour ban. Fourth offense in a week earns a week long ban. This will clean house and allow the people that want to play the opportunity to play.
Using the IEMI in this way encourages Apple to ban the app from the store, as to my knowledge it isn't considered an accepted use case.
So, supposing that's true and can't be implemented, your proposing that people spam new accounts to play. This encourages them to do whatever they want, as there are then no repercussions.
Now, supposing what your saying works. A lot of people who currently are very active will tone down their gaming. They won't want to risk playing over 4G or LTE networks, as there could be issues that cause them to drop status. They also won't want to play when their battery is low, same issue.
So I think as you proposed it a lot of players would leave, and that would cause more players to leave as they would have more difficulties finding a match.
But if they do create new accounts, their karma level won't be high enough to affect the people that want to play the game. I'm at karma level 20, with a decentish rating, yet probably 3/4 of my losses yesterday were from people leaving/disconnecting from the game. Maybe give the team with only 2 players remaining a 10-20% damage boost to account for playing short handed.
Supposing that you are only paired with level 20 people, which is unlikely given how long it takes, then our current karma system deals with that since they lose karma after the second match in a row they afk and thus given that train of thought then our current system has handled the issue.
If so, then your current AFK woes are down to other issues. I would argue that, as a mobile game, there are many legit reasons a player will stop playing and leave. So a better fix needs to happen that isn't just focused on the afk players but also gives back to those playing such as shortening rounds (not something I'm keen on), or ensuring those who stayed have priority when joining a new match.
