Opinions on melee heroes in the lane?

I've recently been experimenting with Joule and Glaive in the lane, I've had lots of success.

Glaive's afterburn is perfect for over-extending opponents, and it's also good for setting up opponents for ganks even if they aren't overextending.

Your thoughts?

Well joule and Glaive can play lane fine and even phinn can get success with lane. It's just a bit risky because if you paired up against someone like Skaarf or kestrel there poke will absolutely destroy you, so it's situational really. In fact me and my friends call lane Glaive "The Dream" because it's so funny, strong but.... situational

For sure situational. But one mele hero who can hold his own with extremely long poke is Black feather. Had a lot of success with him. Especially after level 6.

Well yeah he's meant to be a laner not a jungler.... Most people don't actually understand that.

Melee heros are so easy to abuse in lane though...I mean, adagio with his insane range and arcane fire can make it so unlivable for a melee... Excluding blackfeather, IDK how megacorp did it, but he works well in lane.

Adagio falls off late game, his ult gets useless due to reflex block, (gets useless because it had such a long channeling time to reflex block) even with the damage. He basically becomes a support character without the items and General tanky ness and is much better as support in my opinion. Adagio will bully any laner early game but mid game he will start to fall off. Glaive won't be able to be abused by adagio, if you know how to slow farm, you'll starve adagio from farming and if he over extends you can always afterburn.

Joule makes for a great laner, especially with WP builds. Her jump provides an easy getaway if you over extend, or a way to trap the opposing laner. Her strike is great for poking the enemy, getting last hits, or clearing minion waves.

I've had mixed results with glaive; for me, it really depends on how good the opposing laner is. A good laner will poke me & gun me down quickly, a bad one will overextend & get an *** kickin.

I prefer more traditional laners- save for joule- but yes, many melee characters make viable options.
